Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake is a U.S. adult animated science fantasy television series that Adam Muto created as a follow-up to the Adventure Time series. The second season was broadcast from October 23, 2025, on Max.

The series expands from the Adventure Time universe with the aim of exploring Fionna and Cake, the gender-swapped versions of Adventure Time protagonists Finn and Jake, throughout the series' multiverse.

The character of Marshall Lee, a “vampire” king, was first presented in Adventure Time's third season, Episode Fionna and Cake, where Donald Glover voiced the character for the first time. In Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake, Glover came back to the role in a longer story arc.

In Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake, Marshall Lee is a neighborhood street artist and Fionna’s best friend, instead of just the king of vampires, as portrayed in the main series.

Donald Glover is a man of many talents. He is a true multi-hyphenate who immerses himself in almost every aspect of the entertainment industry, from acting, writing, directing, producing, to composing music.

You are probably familiar with him from films like Mystery Team, the absurd comedy feature he co-wrote with Derrick Comedy, or big-budget flicks like The Martian, where he played a NASA scientist, or Magic Mike XXL, which benefited greatly from his creative directorial touch as part of the ensemble.

Glover’s turn as Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story was a delightful do-over take on the original character. Most people knew him mainly from television, specifically as Troy Barnes, a lovable goofball who brought joy to all around him, on Community. Atlanta’s storytelling was inventive, the social mockery incisive, and there were genre-bending episodes that were all Glover’s vision that brought him universal acclaim.

He followed up by branching into creative duties on projects such as the Swarm psychological thriller series, which he co-created, and the 2024 Mr. & Mrs. Smith remake that he executive-produced and starred in. In addition to his live-action work, Glover has dabbled in voice work for animated shows like Adventure Time, Ultimate Spider-Man, and now Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake, proving he can draw a crowd of multiple generations.

However, Glover's capabilities are not limited to just acting and directing. In music, using the stage name Childish Gambino, he has created a buzz and received good reviews from critics. Among them are the introspective lyrics of Because the Internet and the cultural impact of This Is America whose groundbreaking music video has turned into a viral phenomenon.

The albums he released are genreless and full of experiments that vary in terms of sound, which is an epitome of the same creativity he exudes in his TV and film projects. He even performed live on the Saturday Night Live stage both as the host and the musical guest in the same episode, and his stand-up comedy, such as Donald Glover: Weirdo, has made his sharp wit and observational humor obvious in that whole process.
