Reacher showrunner Lee Child has officially stepped down from his role in the franchise. However, fans have nothing to worry about, as he has left the franchise in very trusted hands.

With Lee Child having stepped down, it is now his younger brother, Andrew Child, who has the responsibility to carry the legacy of the franchise forward.

The Reacher franchise consists of 30 books, with the 31st book scheduled for release late in 2025. Aside from the books, the franchise also includes a Prime Video series adaptation, starring the likes of Alan Ritchson (playing the titular role of Jack Reacher), Willa Fitzgerald, and Olivier Richters, to name a few. The Prime Video series began in February 2022, and Season 3 was released in February 2025.

The show has already been confirmed for Season 4, and the season is scheduled to release sometime in 2026, although no official date has been announced so far.

Reacher creator Lee Child hands over the franchise to his younger brother, Andrew Child

In a recent interview with USA Today, Lee Child revealed this news, stating that he had handed over the franchise to his younger brother and it was "all his now." It is interesting to note that while all the Reacher books are published under Lee Child's name, two of the books, including the upcoming release, Exit Strategy, are actually created by Andrew Child.

Speaking about the transition, Andrew Child assured fans that the transition would be seamless because the brothers were not too focused on who gets credit for the authorship of the project.

"Our goal was to make the change as seamless as possible. We have this idea that really the author isn't important in this situation. It's the character that is the important thing. We want people going to the bookstore to buy the new Reacher, not the new Child, Lee or Andrew."

While Alan Ritchson currently plays the role of the titular character, Jack Reacher, the first actor to portray Reacher on screen was Tom Cruise, in a pair of movies that were adapted from the books. However, Lee Child admitted that Cruise may not have been the best choice for the character, as Reacher's huge stature plays a big role in his character.

"[Reacher is] huge, he’s implacable, he’s scary, and for all Tom’s ability in getting the internals of Reacher out, he is not huge and he’s not scary. So the readers were terribly upset about it and I think, ultimately, the readers were right."

Alan Ritchson portrays the character perfectly, with his huge stature making the character extremely book-accurate. Reacher Season 4 will be based on the thirteenth novel in the series, named Gone Tomorrow.

Although Reacher Season 4 does not have an official release date yet, it is confirmed that the season will be released sometime in 2026. Post-release, the season will be available to stream on Prime Video.
