Carrie Bradshaw is finally bidding goodbye to her viewers as And Just Like That is coming to a definitive end after Season 3.

Much to the disappointment of its fans, showrunner, writer, and director Michael Patrick King took to his social media to announce this news:

''...The ongoing storytelling of the ‘Sex And The City’ universe is coming to an end.''

Sarah Jessica Parker made her debut as Carrie Bradshaw in HBO's Sex and the City in 1998. The show ran for six seasons and also released two feature films. And Just Like That debuted on HBO in 2021 as a direct sequel to the original series and the second spin-off after 2013's The Carrie Diaries, which ran for two seasons.

The sequel series reunited three out of four lead women from the original series, including Parker as Carrie, Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes, and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York. Actress Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones in Sex and the City, did not return for the sequel series.

According to King, the cast and crew of the show felt that Season 3 was the right time to bid farewell to this universe, and it was a conscious and creative decision.

Here is a detailed overview of And Just Like That's cancellation.

Here's why And Just Like That is ending after Season 3

According to King's extended statement on social media, writing for Season 3 felt like a good and natural conclusion for the characters and the story:

“While I was writing the last episode of ‘And Just Like That…’ season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop. Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.''

While And Just Like That Season 3 was always meant to conclude Carrie's story, King and Parker held off the news for the viewers, as he added:

''SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season.''

Sex and the City followed a group of four female friends, navigating life, relationships, and careers in their 30s in New York City. The sequel series continued Carrie's journey after her husband died in the Pilot. The spin-off show featured a more mature approach to love for Carrie, as she learns to accept herself, separate from the romantic relationships she has had throughout her life.

Sarah Jessica Parker bid an emotional goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw

Sarah Jessica Parker has now played Carrie Bradshaw for over two decades, and it is inarguably her most popular and iconic character to date. Carrie not just became a Global fashion icon to women in the 2000s, but her recent return in And Just Like That taught important lessons in self-love and female friendships.

Naturally, Parker is emotionally attached to the longest on-screen character of her career, and she paid a heartfelt tribute to Carrie via her social media:

"Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all. I am better for every single day I spent with you. It will be forever before I forget. The whole thing. Thank you all.''

While Season 3 was to conclude with Episode 10, which aired on July 31, 2025, the show will release an additional two episodes, thus concluding with the And Just Like That series finale (Episode 12) on HBO Max on August 14, 2025.
