The return of King of the Hill, which officially premiered on August 4, 2025, on Hulu, takes place about seven to eight years after the show’s 2009 finale. In the revival, Bobby Hill is now 21 and skipping college to follow his love for meat as co-owner and chef of a Dallas restaurant blending Japanese barbecue with German-Texan flavors, what he proudly calls the “Axis of Flavor.”
He lives with his best friend, Joseph Gribble, and reconnects with ex-girlfriend Connie at a university campus, kicking off a classic will-they-or-won’t-they arc with major nostalgia fuel.
Showrunner Patterson says the time jump complements a new phase of life for the characters. In an interview with TVLine, he pointed out that creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels wanted something “unique”: characters entering new life phases that reflect the audience’s own experiences.
Bobby’s adulthood opens fresh narrative possibilities, Peggy and Hank get to redefine parenthood and retirement, and there’s renewed tension between old‑school values and modern sensibilities. Speaking to the outlet, Patterson said,
"What you always have to answer when you bring something back is the ‘why now?’ question. Why bring it back? [So co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels] came up with the great idea of: ‘Well, if we’re going to bring it back, let’s do something unique.'"
Patterson also noted his own real‑life perspective; he’s a parent to kids in their 20s, so guiding Bobby, now an independent creative, felt like rich, dramatic ground. Aging the characters gave him and the writers
“a little injection of energy in terms of being excited to revisit these characters”
More details on The King of the Hill's new season
In January 2022, Mike Judge and Greg Daniels quietly dropped a bombshell: along with founding their new animation house, Bandera Entertainment, they were plotting a King of the Hill revival. By early 2023, Hulu made it official. Now, after a long wait and even longer fan theories, season 14 has arrived in full, debuting on August 4, 2025, with all ten episodes landing at once on Hulu and Disney+ with Hulu.
The original creators are back in charge, giving Arlen a fresh layer of dust and drama. Mike Judge returns as both Hank Hill and Boomhauer, joined by Kathy Najimy as Peggy and Pamela Adlon as Bobby. Johnny Hardwick, who voiced Dale Gribble, tragically passed in 2023 after recording part of the season.
The rest of Dale’s scenes were voiced by Toby Huss. Rounding out the cast: Stephen Root as Bill, Jonathan Joss as John Redcorn, and Ronny Chieng stepping in as the ever-snarky Kahn. The show has gone through a time jump to highlight the gap of years passed while fans waited for the reboot.
With a fresh makeover and fresher and older characters, King of the Hill has made a significant comeback to the small screen.
King of the Hill is now streaming on Hulu.
