The 11th Street Kids, after saving the world in the previous season, were hoping to be taken much more seriously in Peacemaker Season 2. However, with the premiere of the first episode, titled The Ties That Grind, on August 21, it looks like not much has changed for these heroes, and it might even have gotten worse for some of them.

Emilia Harcourt, especially, is not having the best time, as suffering from violent and "toxic masculinity," she has nothing more than midnight bar fights to indulge in for some thrill. To make matters worse, Chris, with his very obvious crush on her, forces her to address their off-screen hookup, causing a big, heated argument between the two in the first episode of Peacemaker Season 2.

Keep reading to find out what happened.

Why Emilia Harcourt and Peacemaker argued in Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 1

The Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 1 wastes no time in catching the viewers up with the canon events in the newly revamped DCU, with the existence of the Justice Gang instead of the Justice League. We also catch up with the 11th Street Kids and how they've been holding up after the events in Season 1.

Emilia Harcourt is having a harder time than most in the aftermath of Project Butterfly and Amanda Waller being exposed by her daughter. Unable to take out all her revenge on her daughter, Amanda Waller blacklisted Harcourt, resulting in rejection at job interviews with all government intelligence agencies.

One of these interviews goes as far as diagnosing her with "toxic masculinity." She takes out some of her annoyance by punching through her dashboard and the rest in midnight bar fights later in the episode.

Chris finds her with bloody knuckles outside her house, where he's been waiting for her. It appears as if he's waiting to get her update on her NSA interview, but further conversation reveals he wants to talk about an off-screen hookup that took place between the two of them.

For Chris, who has always had a crush on her, this hookup was an opportunity for their friendship to grow into something deeper, maybe even a real relationship. However, for Emilia, it was a drunken, stupid mistake on a party boat that she would like to forget and move on from.

Emilia's unwillingness to engage in anything deeper than hookups here and there might be inspired by the aimlessness she's feeling after Season 1. She has virtually nothing good left in her life after being unable to get hired in any federal intelligence agency. Her only source of thrill is a bar fight. Crimson blood painted all over her is the only time we see her sporting a smile. Things are not great for her, and a hookup and a relationship are the last things on her mind.

When Chris discovers Emilia's stance on their hookup, he's hurt and they end up arguing, resulting in him storming out of her place and engaging in a cocaine-fueled stupor. He ends up lost in the midst of a very graphic *rgy and, in an attempt to escape, ends up walking into another dimension, one where his brother and his father are alive, setting up the plot for Peacemaker Season 2 and interdimensional mayhem.
