Severance finally came back on Apple TV+ with its second season after almost 2 years. The first season of the series can be streamed on the platform and new episodes of the second season drop weekly every Friday. However, one of the cast members, Christopher Walken has a completely different approach to watching the show.
Christopher Walken, the veteran actor, who plays the role of Burt Goodman, Head of Optics and Design at Lumon, recently revealed that he does not have access to the modern ways of watching Severance and therefore, Dan Erickson had sent him DVDs so that he can enjoy his own show.
Let us now explore in detail what Walken said about streaming Severance and why he has not yet watched all the episodes of the show.
Christopher Walken has watched some episodes of Severance on DVDs
On January 16, 2025, Christopher Walken appeared on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live and when he was asked whether he had watched all the episodes of Severance, he responded with a no. He then proceeded to clarify, saying,
“Not all of them. I can’t. I don’t have the equipment.”
Walken further mentioned,
“So, they’re good enough to send me DVDs.”
This led Andy to ask him if he had an Apple TV+ subscription to which also Walken replied in the negative. Cohen told him that he loved him for that.
Walken’s attachment to the old-school methods of viewing is what has led the team of Severance to send the actor DVDs of the show so that he can enjoy it the way likes.
What role does Christopher Walken play in Severance?
Christopher Walken plays the role of Burt Goodman, who is the Head of Optics and Design at Lumon. His character is shown to be a gentleman and one of the older employees of Lumon who had decided to get severed. His innie and John Turturro’s Irving Bailiff develop romantic feelings for each other inside the office but because of their severed mind, their outies have no idea about this.
Things get complicated when in a whistleblowing attempt against Lumon, Irving’s innie and outie come together and he discovers that outside Lumon, Burt has a different life and he is with someone else. This revelation came as a part of the cliffhanger ending of Severance Season 1.
In the first episode of the second season, while Irving is shown to be unable to come to terms with the fact that Burt has a different person in his life, Burt’s character has not yet made an appearance. As said by show creator Erickson regarding the various mysteries that this season needs to answer,
“To me, it’s always about stacking the mysteries on top of each other. Think of a pyramid where with each season, you’re answering some things but that opens the door to a larger mystery that was underneath. I’m very conscious of not wanting to string people along or make them feel like there are no answers to be had, because that’s not fun. But at the same time, you can over-explain something and take the wonder out of it. I think that the key to that is that every answer opens a new door, and there are new wonders to explore.”
Therefore, fans now have to wait and watch what further happens between Burt and Irving and if the latter will confront the former with his newfound knowledge about his life outside Lumon.
Severance Season 1 and the first episode of Season 2 can be steamed on Apple TV+. New episodes of the second season drop weekly, every Friday.
