Young Sheldon introduced Mandy as a love interest for Sheldon's elder brother, Georgie. However, their age gap went on to become a big plot point for the show as well as the spin-off, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage, which was released much later.

The Big Bang Theory wrapped up with its final episode in May 2019. However, it was long before its spin-off, Young Sheldon, took hold of the internet with its heartwarming characters. The show premiered as a special in 2017 and was soon picked up as a full-season spin-off and went on to run for seven seasons.

This show holds a special place in The Big Bang Theory franchise, as it took the show's popularity to another level with its heartwarming characters and humor, which was accessible to all viewers, not just a niche selection of certain fandoms. It also introduced Georgie and Mandy's relationship, along with their significant age gap, which becomes a major element in their relationship and the difficulties they face.

Georgie and Mandy's age gap started as a no-consequences fling in Young Sheldon

Young Sheldon is the origin story of Sheldon as he tries to navigate life as a socially inept genius kid in Texas. However, the show also turned out to be the origin story for the spin-off that would come later: Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage.

Georgie met Mandy when he was just 17 in Young Sheldon. However, to get together with an older woman, he lied to her and told her he was 21. Mandy was 29 when she met Georgie, but she, wanting to feel younger than she was, told Georgie she was 25. The 4-year age gap did not seem large to the duo, considering they'd lied to each other when they initially got together. To them, this was a fun fling that they would never have to address or deal with, unaware of the 12-year age gap between them.

This "fun fling" plan was turned completely upside down when Mandy ended up getting pregnant with Georgie's baby and decided to have the child in Young Sheldon. The fun fling turned into a lifetime of co-parenting when Georgie found out about Mandy's pregnancy. Baby CeCe was born, and after the show's end with Season 7, the couple had moved into the McAllister home with their baby, owing to a lack of space and privacy in the Cooper house.

Georgie & Mandy's age gap became a major strain on their relationship

As a fun fling, the 12-year age gap might not have mattered to Georgie and Mandy. But expecting a baby together—and eventually dating and getting married—meant that the significant age difference was a major point of obstacle for their relationship in Young Sheldon.

Nevertheless, even though Georgie and Mandy initially figured out a way to make peace with the age difference, as soon as Georgie turned 18, their family, especially Mandy's mother, continued to use their age difference as a weapon to oppose their relationship.

Mandy's mother, Aubrey McAllister, has been very vocally opposed to Georgie and Mandy's relationship since Young Sheldon. She takes every chance she can get to bring up the worst moments and parts of their relationships. The fact that the two of them share a 12-year age difference is the biggest weapon of opposition in her arsenal. She has taken endless swings at Georgie for being much younger and, so, less worldly and intelligent than Mandy.

She also takes every chance she can to try and convince Mandy that Georgie isn't right for her and she should choose somebody else. Her latest choice is Georgie's ex-boyfriend, now boss Scott, and she takes every chance she can get to remind Mandy how rich Scott's family is and how she was sad when he dumped Mandy.

The couple's age gap and their financial struggles, as well as their insecurities, take a toll on their relationship.
