ABC's crime drama show High Potential became the biggest breakout hit on the network in 2024 and garnered 10 million viewers per episode.
The show's popularity paved the way for Season 2, which was announced even before the Season 1 finale. In addition to the show's return for Season 2, it was announced that the sophomore season will also have an increased episode count.
While Season 1 featured 13 episodes, the second chapter will comprise a total of 18 episodes, which is a testament to the show's success.
High Potential is helmed by a strong cast, led by Kaitlin Olson, who plays the lead character Morgan. While Morgan's high IQ assisted the LAPD in solving each case with ease, the Season 1 finale introduced a mysterious villain and ended on a cliffhanger.
However, based on Deniz Akdeniz's (Oz) recent comments, the serial killer storyline might be resolved sooner in Season 2.
More on this in our story.
High Potential Season 2 might resolve the Season 1 cliffhanger sooner
While procedural shows tend to stretch their storylines to create mystery, it often ends in frustration for the audience, and they lose interest.
With High Potential Season 1 being a monumental hit, it looks like the show is scraping out stretchy storylines, and Season 2 might resolve the biggest cliffhanger sooner than expected.
While Morgan and her team solved every case of the week brilliantly in Season 1, the finale saw a major unsolved case and a potential threat to Morgan.
While the team thought that they were inches away from catching the mysterious villain (played by David Giuntoli) in the High Potential Season 1 finale, he was smarter than they thought.
In addition to committing a string of murders, he also put the life of Oz in danger, which only suggested his dark motives. After Morgan's team realised that the man they were assuming to be their suspect was actually admitted to a facility, it was clear that the new serial killer was using his identity to commit murders.
However, the final moments of the High Potential Season 1 finale saw the anonymous villain targeting Morgan after he pretended to help her unload groceries from her car. Later, she finds a pack of cards in her groceries, with this written on them:
''We shall play again. Me and You.''
This made it clear that Morgan is his new threat and the stage for a deadly Season 2 was set.
While the fans are eager to know the identity of this mysterious but dangerous villain, Deniz Akdeniz recently teased with TV Insider that the killer storyline will be resolved soon in Season 2:
''There’s a serial killer or a game player out on the loose that we have to really resolve, and I think the start of the season will definitely address that. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun to finally bring that person to justice, considering they put me in the bottom of a pool, which I didn’t appreciate.''
High Potential Season 2 certainly has Morgan's ex-husband, Roman's mystery, up its sleeve, which is why the show might resolve this cliffhanger quickly. With an increased episode count, the sophomore season certainly has more room to explore new storylines, which is why the serial killer's identity might be resolved soon.
