When A Man on the Inside came out, viewers knew this would be one of the most engaging and lighthearted series on Netflix, focusing on a man in his mid-70s who unexpectedly becomes an undercover agent.

The story begins with a retired engineering professor, Charles Nieuwendyk, living a flat life filled with grief after he loses his wife. Charles' daughter then suggested he do something new, and then he noticed a newspaper ad by private investigator Julie.

She's the one who posted the opening for an undercover agent with a condition: he must be in his 70s. Luckily, Charles happens to be the same age and takes on the job. The story begins, and so does chaos and comedy.

And with Julie and Charles being the main characters, fans also get to know Julie's estranged mother, Vanessa Cascade. The lady looks quite similar to many fans and viewers as the role is played by Constance Marie, an acclaimed actress known for her contributions to both TV and films.

Who plays Julie's mom in A Man on the Inside? Details about the actress and her role explained

Julie's mother, Vanessa is one of the memorable characters in A Man on the Inside, played by actress Constance Marie. As mentioned before, the actress has been part of several well-known projects over the years.

As seen in the TV series, Vanessa’s background is complicated. She had spent years working as a skilled con artist, which severely affected her life. She was even sent to prison due to her involvement in fraudulent schemes and all this happened when Julie was just a child.

Because of this, Julie always felt abandoned and had to live with the scars. Eventually, she parted ways with her mother until she reunited with her in A Man on the Inside Season 2. Unlike a typical mother-daughter reunion, Vanessa and Julie's reunion isn't warm but strange.

However, they gradually start understanding each other, and Vanessa even uses her old pickpocketing tricks to help Julie and Charles in a mission. A major turning point for their relationship comes during the Thanksgiving episode of A Man on the Inside.

Where have we seen A Man on the Inside star Constance Marie before?

Before A Man on the Inside star she stepped into the world of acting, Constance Marie was involved in the underground break-dancing scene in Los Angeles as a teenager. Her talent eventually led to a major opportunity: out of hundreds of dancers who auditioned, she was chosen to join David Bowie’s 1987 Glass Spider Tour, later appearing in the tour’s 1988 concert film as well.

Marie's dance experience helped her make a way into acting and she landed her first TV role in the CBS adaptation of Dirty Dancing. Since then, the actress has played many roles, with some of the major TV projects including George Lopez (2002–2007), Switched at Birth (2011–2017), American Family (2002–2004).

A Man on the Inside actress has also appeared in Undone (2019–2022), where she took on the role of Camila Diaz in this Amazon Prime drama. Marie has been a part of With Love (2021–2023) as well, and even lent her voice in Elena of Avalor for the character Doña Paloma.
