The Abandons has only been out for a short while, but fans everywhere are already asking the same question. Why does Mr Roache look so familiar? And honestly, the answer is pretty fun.
The guy you see playing Mr. Roache has been in everything from fantasy shows to psychological horror. Hence, it makes perfect sense that you feel like you've likely seen him before. And, if you've watched Game of Thrones, The Haunting of Hill House or even Nashville for that matter, chances are he's already been on your screen.
Where have you seen the actor before
If you’re obsessed with The Abandons the way so many of us are, then you already know how wild it gets once Constance hires Roache to track down Willem. The moment he appears, you can’t shake the feeling that he’s been around forever.

Before stepping into the world of The Abandons, Michiel Huisman built a career that stretched across so many genres that it almost feels unreal.
His earliest roles were in Dutch TV where he started out super young in a long running soap. By the time he hit his teens, he was already doing TV movies and starring in films geared towards younger audiences.
He also kept hopping between TV sets and film sets with so much ease that it feels like he was just meant for this life. Eventually he even jumped into lead roles in Dutch cinema, playing everything from romantic leads to knights.
Then came the part that changed everything. Huisman stepped into international work, landing roles in British series and later joining the cast of HBO’s Treme as Sonny, the musician trying to make sense of his messy life. And through all of this he kept slipping into films like World War Z and Wild, slowly building a name that was impossible to forget.
His most famous roles that explain why he feels so familiar
One of his most breakout roles is Daario Naharis in Season 4 of Game of Thrones. From there on out, he kept stacking projects that stayed in the minds of people.
If you've watched Orphan Black, you might also recall him as Cal and if you love romances, you've probably cried through The Age of Adaline.

However, one of his most standout roles is from the hit Netflix Psychological thriller The Haunting of Hill House. As Steven Crain, the oldest Crain sibling who writes about his family's terrifying past about their time at Hill House, he became one of the emotional anchors of the series.
Even after that, he's kept moving between big films, darker thrillers, and historical dramas. Whether he was playing a pilot in 2:22, a grieving partner in Irreplaceable You or an important character in The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, he always left a mark.
So if Mr Roache feels strangely familiar in The Abandons, it’s because Michiel Huisman has been everywhere. From fantasy hits to horror classics, from Dutch TV to massive Hollywood sets, his career is stacked with roles that stay in your mind.
And now he’s adding another memorable character to that list with this new Western story. It’s pretty cool to watch an actor you already love slip into a whole new world like he belongs there.
