Star Trek: Strange New Worlds fans faced a bit of a good news/bad news situation recently. Season 3 of the show is set to debut on Thursday, July 17. Ahead of this buzz, fans were given the harsh news—Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is coming to an end.
However, there's no need to get heartbroken already, since the makers of the show also announced that Seasons 4 and 5 of the show are underway. However, Season 5 will have only six episodes instead of the usual ten.
While Season 4 is already in production, Season 5 will be in production later this year itself.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will come to an end with a shortened Season 5
Ahead of the release of Season 3 of Strange New Worlds, executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman expressed their gratitude to the fans in a joint statement.
"From the very beginning, Strange New Worlds set out to honor what Star Trek has always stood for — boundless curiosity, hope and the belief that a better future is possible."
They continued,
"We’re deeply grateful to Paramount+ for the chance to complete our five-season mission, just as we envisioned it, alongside our extraordinary cast and crew. And to the passionate fans who’ve boldly joined us on this journey — THANK YOU. With three more spectacular seasons ahead for you to see and enjoy, this adventure is far from over."
The show is a prequel to The Original Series, one of the most popular running shows within the Star Trek franchise. Naturally, fans were long expecting Captain Pike, played by Anson Mount, and his team to connect to the original timeline. However, now it seems like this can only take place around Season 5, which is supposedly going to be shorter than the previous seasons.
However, how the storyline plays out is something fans can guess only once the upcoming seasons are released. While Season 3 will release on Thursday, July 17, Season 4 will also presumably release later this year or early next year. Season 5 is set to be in production later this year, meaning Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will not come to an end anytime before 2027 or 2028.
