He proudly notes that the patent is pending, which suggests that he has been nurturing a personal venture outside the department all this time. This twist in the narrative suggests that McGee might change his path altogether and soon pursue a civilian tech path. This also means his potential exit from MCRT to focus on his invention to start a private enterprise instead.

Over the years and across seasons, we have seen him evolve from a rookie to a seasoned senior field agent and a family man.
