Why does Veronica on Young Sheldon look so familiar? Here's where you have seen the star before

Young Sheldon has been the stepping stone for a lot of talented actors in the industry. From Montana Jordan who played Georgie Cooper in the show and then got his own spinoff in Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage to Isabel May, who played the role of Veronica in Young Sheldon and was then seen in 1883 and 1923.

Created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, Young Sheldon, is a spinoff prequel to The Big Bang Theory and focuses on the childhood of Sheldon Cooper. The show aired for seven seasons from 2017 to 2024 and was loved by many for its humor and cozy setting.

Young Sheldon had many memorable characters like MeeMaw, Missy, and more. While Iain Armitage played the central role of a young Sheldon, Isabel May was also in the show as a recurring appearance and played the character of Veronica Duncan in Season 2.

The actress is noted for her roles in 1883 and 1923, but she also worked in Young Sheldon, and is therefore a familiar face.

Who played Veronica on Young Sheldon? Details explored

Young Sheldon is primarily about the growing up years of Sheldon Cooper, who is a child genius from Texas and often has to balance his orthodox, laid-back, and quirky family members against his own scientific aims.

However, as the show progressed, the storyline also focused on other characters like Sheldon’s father George Cooper Sr., his sister Missy, and his grandmother MeeMaw. Another important and memorable character in this lineup was Sheldon’s elder brother Georgie or George Cooper Jr.

In the earlier seasons of the show, Georgie is not interested in studies and is only interested in sports and girls at the high school. However, in later seasons, he becomes a more responsible man.

During this early period of the show, Georgie encounters one of the popular girls in school, called Veronica. Her character is an interesting addition to the show as she is earlier shown to be a famous girl in the school, who is more experienced than Georgie when it comes to love and intimacy.

Veronica’s character is played by actress Isabel May and the character of Veronica first appears in Season 2, Episode 6 of Young Sheldon when the festival of Halloween is around the corner and Mary Cooper has to create a Hell House, that brings people towards God. On the other hand, Sheldon tutors Veronica for trigonometry and Georgie immediately sees this as an opportunity to impress Veronica.

However, by the end of the episode, Veronica and Georgie enter the Hell House and when they reach the part about lust, Veronica is so overcome with guilt that she decides to become a religious girl and save herself from sin. The episode is hilarious as Veronica has a total change of heart and instead of being a vivacious girl, she becomes a simple and devout girl.

Isabel May is able to embody both these sides of Veronica and later on, there are a few more episodes where she appears. Even though she is a recurring character, Veronica’s backstory is also fleshed out in the series. Her father left her mother and her mother’s new boyfriend is controlling and abusive. In one of the episodes, when Veronica’s stepfather tries to take her away from the Cooper’s residence, George Cooper Sr. stands up for her and his son Georgie and protects them.

Ultimately, the romantic tension between Georgie and Veronica ends when Veronica decides to not continue her relationship with Georgie because of her religious beliefs and Georgie moves on with Jana.

Other projects of Isabel May

Apart from Young Sheldon, actress Isabel May has worked in a variety of other shows. She was seen in the Netflix series Alexa and Katie and portrayed the role of Katie. Her role in Young Sheldon around the same time also raised her to prominence. Isabel May has also worked in independent movies like Let’s Scare Julie.

One of her major television roles occurs in 1883, which was a prequel to Yellowstone. May played the role of Elsa Dutton in the series, who is one of the central characters and the narrator of the show. Her role in 1883 gave her further acclaim and the actress was noted for being able to portray a range of emotions and give a hard-hitting performance.

The actress also appeared in 1923, which is also a spinoff of Yellowstone and has won the Women’s Image Network Awards for her role in 1883. Recently, Deadline confirmed that Isabel May will play the role of Sidney Prescott’s daughter in the upcoming horror movie, Scream 7. May has therefore proven herself to be a talented upcoming actress.
