Episode 7 proves that they could not be more wrong.

At the same time, the Apple TV series also highlights Tom’s hidden past, the strange covenant that's associated with the island, and the trip beyond the Dead Zone.

Nearly every scene drops a clue, and by the end of Episode 7, Widow's Bay leaves us with an even bigger problem than before.

Spoiler Alert for: Episode 7 of Widow's Bay.

Widow's Bay Episode 7 recap: Wyck digs up Richard Warren's dead body from his grave

Tom wakes up to Richard’s grave being opened

One of the funniest bits of Widow's Bay Episode 7 is how unprepared Tom is for everything that's happening around him. After getting wrecked by the island mushrooms, he wakes up (after being passed out) near a toilet and realizes that entire day has gone by!

While he was busy lying unconscious, we know Wyck decided that waiting around was pointless and he pulled out Richard Warren’s coffin from under the ground himself.

Tom makes his way over to the Historical Society after Patricia calls him, and the reactions there are honestly perfect.

The coffin sitting in the corner feels disturbing enough, but Patricia casually reveals that Richard is upstairs! I mean, isn't he supposed to be dead? Hence obviously, this reveal makes things 10x worse, and Tom can barely seem to process any of this new-found information.

In Widow's Bay Episode 7, Patricia explains that Richard won't speak with anyone except the island’s protector, which now happens to be Tom. The only communication she managed with Richard has been through handwritten notes, which says a lot about how bizarre the whole situation is.

Once Tom speaks with Richard, Widow's Bay reveals more about the covenant that's associated with the island. Here, Richard admits that the settlers were starving during the first winter until he found the mysterious mushrooms growing nearby.

After eating one, he came into contact with a dark force on the island. In exchange for wanting to live, he agreed to a pact that tied down his entire bloodline to Widow’s Bay forever.

Episode 7 also leans heavily into Richard's physical condition. He looks weak, exhausted, and obviously, he's barely even human anymore after centuries of being trapped underground. But even while being so fragile, there are small scenes that hint how dangerous he might still be.

Richard’s plan to end the curse sounds... almost too easy?

Widow's Bay Episode 7 becomes so much more unsettling once Richard begins to explain that there may actually be a way to break the island’s curse. Isn't that great!?

According to the man buried alive for centuries, the covenant only still lives even today because Richard's bloodline still exists. Since he claims he is the last remaining Warren to be alive, dying outside the island’s supernatural boundary should perhaps finally destroy the pact completely.

At first, Tom seems to be relieved hearing this. After everything he has learned about Widow's Bay, the possibility of ending such a dark nightmare so easily feels extremely impossible to ignore.

Richard then suggests that they take him out to sea, beyond the area that the locals call the Dead Zone. Once he'd be separated from the island’s influence, his body should finally give out, and he should at last, meet his death away from the island.

Something to note here would be just how easily Richard talks about his own death. He talks about it like he's finally ready to let go after centuries of suffering, a stark contrast from how we've seen him act in Episode 6 of Widow's Bay.

This kind of softness seen in Episode 7 almost makes him seem trustworthy for a while. But, is he really a trustworthy person? Or is this all just a façade he's putting up?

Perhaps one of the biggest warning signs in Widow's Bay Episode 7 comes into play when Richard stares at the bust that's been made in Sarah Westcott’s likeness. The way he digs his thumbs into the sculpture’s skull, is unsettling to say the least. And yes, it becomes extremely obvious that there is still rage buried underneath everything else, after what she's done to him on the island, in the past.

Still, the group decides to move forward with the plan. Wyck agrees to steer the boat, though only if Richard agrees to stay locked up inside the coffin for most of the journey. Patricia helps them escape Sheriff Bechir’s attention by stealing his Jeep, which gives Tom and Wyck just enough time to leave the island unnoticed.

Widow's Bay Episode 7 really starts building up this sense of eeriness once the boat finally moves away from the shore because the Apple TV series has already made it very clear that leaving the island has never ever been a simple task.

Wyck reveals what happened to Mark at sea

Once they're in the boat and away from the shore in Widow’s Bay Episode 7, Wyck starts talking about his childhood. While they move toward the Dead Zone, he tells Tom about the worst thing that's ever happened to him and why he fears the waters around the island so very much.

He reveals that years earlier, Wyck and his best friend Mark stole a boat and drifted farther out than they should have. Suddenly, something huge struck the underside of the boat while they were out there. Wyck remembers seeing what looked like a tentacle under the water, which immediately frightened both of the boys.

Things became even worse once Wyck fell into the sea. While trying to climb back up onto the boat, he felt someone grabbing his foot underwater. He assumed it was the creature that had been attacking them, so he kicked free without thinking. Later, he realized it was actually Mark begging for help before drowning.

That guilt of un-intentionally killing his friend clearly never left him.

Wyck's story in Widow's Bay Episode 7 works as a warning for Tom because Wyck believes that the island punishes anyone trying to escape its reach. However, by the time he finishes explaining everything, Tom has already started trusting Richard more than he probably should.

As the weather grows rougher and rougher, Richard also starts acting a bit too differently. Earlier, he sounded like someone who was prepared to die for the island’s freedom. Now, he suddenly seems desperate to stay alive.

The shift in behavior happens slowly at first, and then, it explodes once he attacks Tom and Wyck on the boat.

The two of them somehow manage to shove Richard back into the coffin, but the fight nearly throws Wyck into the water again.

Sarah Westcott’s hidden painting exposes the real problem

Just when Widow's Bay Episode 7 seems like it's ready to end the curse, the Apple TV series drops yet another reveal.

Tom somehow manages to hold onto the coffin long enough for the boat to cross past the buoy, which marks the edge of the Dead Zone. Once they open the lid of the coffin again, Richard’s body has now completely turned into dust and bones. He's finally finished.

But, is the curse actually done and dusted as well?

For a brief moment, it genuinely feels like they've won, like the island’s nightmare might just finally be over at last.

Wyck climbs back onto the boat, completely soaked and exhausted, and both men laugh from sharing a bit of relief. After everything that they've survived, they actually can't believe they managed to pull this off so easily.

Then, the during the final scene of Widow's Bay Episode 7, hope gets destroys once again.

Back at the hotel, a guest is being removed from the property while a painting seems to be hanging unnoticed in the background. The image shows a damaged boat and what seems to be someone rescuing a survivor from the middle of the sea.

The painting strongly hints that one of Sarah Westcott’s children may have most certainly managed to escape the island long ago.

And, even if one descendant has survived, then Richard Warren’s bloodline never truly ended. That means the covenant associated with Widow's Bay may still exist.

Episode 7 ends with another major mystery involving Tom himself. While he is away dealing with Richard, Evan and Kelly search through his belongings and discover old photos of Tom’s mother holding him as a child.

This directly contradicts the story that she died giving birth to him, opening another huge question the series still has not yet answered.
