Antony Starr bids farewell to The Boys hive with an emotional note, a year before the show's fifth season begins streaming. Starr is all set to play Homelander, the menacing character that has long been one of the standouts from the show. His performance has been crucial in turning Homelander into an utterly inhumane figure.

The show will return for one last blood-soaked adventure in 2026 in season five. Ahead of its streaming release, Starr spoke about the show and his complicated character through an Instagram post.

"I love this show. And I love this character. Truly. I will dearly miss heading to work, knowing what we were aiming for but never knowing where we would find ourselves by the end of the day…only that we would have fun and it would be creatively rewarding in the extreme," the caption said.

Starr further added,

"This complicated character allowed the space and range to discover and push boundaries in a way I never expected, and I will always be grateful for this experience."

Antony Starr has often been vocal about his The Boys character's darker motives

Erik Kripke, the showrunner behind The Boys, conceived the show as a satire about those who hold power or status in society. In the show, he follows a group of superpowered beings funded by a corporate entity to influence the masses. Soon, it reveals their murkier motives, taking us further in understanding how these heroes are far from their saviors.

Unfortunately, a section of the fans started looking up to characters like Homelander and idolizing them, blinded by his power and unwitting charisma. Despite those reactions, Antony Starr has understood how The Boys has been a scathing critique of the effects of power going unchecked. So, in the aforementioned post, he points it out while referring to Kripke, saying:

"We created a monster, sir. And I will miss him, and you."

Despite headlining The Boys for the most part, Starr acknowledges the work from the showrunner and the crew, whose valuable contribution turned it into a cultural phenomenon. He addressed them, saying,

"When we began, I had no idea what was coming. This juggernaut left the station and never stopped. Except for that Covid moment. Oh, and the strikes. That was a thing too. But apart from those two times, it never stopped, boldly making its mark on the television landscape. There’s nothing else like it. It lives in its own lane."

He further added,

"And at the end of the shoot, all there really is to say is- thank you. The incredible Canadian crew. The amazing production team. The insanely talented cast. The people at Amazon and Sony that took a chance on this insane thing(and made the great choice in casting me😂)and all the other people that contributed in some way, big or small, to this beautiful, complex, warped, delicious show."

Starr ended his note by addressing the fans, whose support turned it into the said phenomenon.

"And finally- massive thank you to the fans. You are the lifeblood. Without you, we don’t get to do this. And our fans are second to none. Mad love to you….and deepest respect for your taste ;)," Starr said.

The Boys season 5 is expected to premiere in 2026 on Prime Video.
