There could be some good news for Peacemaker fans with its season 2 currently premiering starting from August 21, 2025. While speaking with IMDb, James Gunn, the creator and showrunner, dropped a cryptic response. It hinted that Blue Beetle might show up in the show. Yes, you heard it right.
When asked by IMDb whether fans might see Blue Beetle pop up in Peacemaker, Gunn replied:
“Well, you know, I won’t say you’re not in luck.”
This suggests the possibility is more than just idle speculation, while still leaving open the question of when or how, possibly even beyond Season 2.
This is what Gun said about the reappearance of Blue Beetle in Peacemaker season 2
James Gunn has emphasised many times how Peacemaker and Blue Beetle both seamlessly fit into the DC Universe. This means that the characters would not need much of a change if they tried to fit together, except for some minor retconning to align with the refreshed continuity.
When IMDb asked about the Blue Beetle's appearance, Gunn responded, saying that he can't completely deny the viewer's luck, suggesting a high possibility of the feature. However, he didn't mention which season of the upcoming show or which Blue Beetle would appear. That means the door is open not only for Jaime Reyes, played by Xolo Maridueña, but also for Ted Kord, whose story is deliberately unresolved in the Blue Beetle movie.
Blue Beetle established Ted's fate as the head of Kord Industries. The film also revealed him to be alive, reaching out via a pre-recorded urgent message and urging someone to contact his daughter, Jenny. Now, this cooks up a major fan theory that Ted was stranded in an alternate dimension due to a failed experiment.
According to reports, this can be tied to the new Peacemaker season 2, which has been confirmed to explore alternate realities through the Quantum Unfolding Chamber. This could be an interesting plotline that could seamlessly overlap with Ted Kord's predicament. This might also allow the show to bring Ted back and explain his disappearance, bridging the film and TV universes.
Gunn has also suggested Blue Beetle and Peacemaker sliding into the DCU this one more time
In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Gunn said about the HBO show and Blue Beetle sliding into the DCU:
"Peacemaker was always in a weird place. People say he was part of the DCEU but he wasn't really. He was part of this "in-between Universe" of DC when there was nobody really making sure that everything was connected...there's hardly anything else that you need to change for him, he can slide very easily into the DCU, same with Blue Beetle. They just kind of fit in very nicely. We just have to retcon a couple of things."
Therefore, we can conclude that Gunn’s tease could imply a guest appearance in later episodes, or perhaps teased for future seasons. With a Blue Beetle animated series underway, voiced by Xolo Maridueña, slated for a 2026 release, the HBO show could serve as a live-action bridge to that world.
