The Bear, the FX comedy drama, returned for its fourth season on 25th June 2025, and introduced a character that we had only heard of before. In past seasons of The Bear, we had heard of Francie Fak, of the Fak family, who are close friends with the Berzattos. In season four, we finally meet her in episode seven, Bears.

Francie is played by Brie Larson, and she appears in only one episode of season four. We were given a vague idea about Francie before, and told that she and Natalie hate each other. While they reconcile in season four, we still don't know why they hate each other.

Since we know so less about Francie, she might return in a recurring role in The Bear season five, which has already been greenlit. Thus, Brie Larson might return as Francie, and while nothing has been confirmed yet, the actress spoke with Vanity Fair about what she thinks about Francie's possible return.

Francie Fak was a character well talked about in the show until we saw her in episode seven of season four. What we do know about her is that she and Natalie used to be good friends until something bad happened, and the two have hated each other ever since. We also get a hint that whatever broke their friendship happened years ago when Francie defends herself in an argument with Natalie, saying,

“It was raining, the bus was going to leave,”

She also adds,

"there were no cell phones then!”

The fact that there were no cell phones when the two had the famous fight shows that a significant amount of time has passed since then. Thus, it also makes sense that after quite the bickering, the two decide to forgive each other and become friends again.

While we see a sweet reconciliation, we still don't know what exactly happened between the two all those years ago. There's an indication they might have 'hooked' up in the past, but nothing concrete about their fight is revealed. Thus, it would make sense to bring Francie back to reveal the reason behind the duo falling apart, maybe even through a flashback.

When asked in an interview with Vanity Fair if she thinks her character will come back in The Bear season five, Brie Larson said,

"I had the absolute best time, would fly across the country and work with them for one hour if that’s what it took. I don’t know if anybody knows what the future holds, but I think it’s a really nice place that their relationship ends."

She elaborates on Francie and Natalie's dynamic, saying,

"Maybe men deal with this too, but I know as a woman, it’s such a relatable thing. When I finally saw the episode, I teared up a bit. I know what it’s like to have close girl friendships that go south, then you find a way to make peace. It’s just such a beautiful thing to grow in your life and to be able to accept an apology, or be the one to say an apology and put things in the past. But if there’s another season, I really want to be there."

Many guest stars on The Bear have returned for later seasons, like Carmy's mother Donna, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, and Luca, played by Will Poulter. Francie, played by Brie Larson, could similarly become a recurring character to reveal why she fell apart with Natalie or to just show Francie's rekindled friendship with her.

The Bear is streaming on Hulu.
