Anticipation for Butterfly Season 2 is natural, given the cliffhanger ending of the first season. Butterfly premiered on Prime Video on August 13, 2025, with all 6 episodes dropping together. The official synopsis of the show, as mentioned by Rotten Tomatoes, reads,

“David Jung is a former U.S. intelligence operative who lives in South Korea; his past soon comes back to haunt him as a sinister spy organization sends a sociopathic agent to kill him.”

Prime Video has not officially confirmed Butterfly Season 2, and no one from the production team has shared any updates.

Butterfly Season 2 has not been officially confirmed

As mentioned previously, there is no official confirmation on the second season of Butterfly. Generally, the renewal of a series depends on how well it is performing and other parameters like ratings and hours watched.

Although it may be too early for an announcement about Butterfly Season 2, the show has performed well since its release, earning praise from both critics and viewers.

Even the show’s cast members are uncertain about the show’s future, and if it doesn't get a second season, the ending would remain open to interpretation. Talking about what she would want in her character in case the show returns, Kim Tae-hee, who plays Eunju, told TV Insider,

“I hope I could have some more action scenes.”

She ended up with a rather nasty wound at the end of season 1, and talking about her character’s trust in David, Kim Tae-hee added,

“Eunju definitely knows the dangers of the situation, but I think she also knows that there is no stopping him… Eunju is a courageous woman, and because of that, I think she’s giving him the space to do what he needs to do.”

Daniel Dae Kim, the producer and star of Butterfly, has not hinted at anything regarding a second installment of the show. In an interview with TV Insider, he talked about his character David’s dynamic with Rebecca, saying,

I don’t think David trusts Rebecca now. I think that’s the journey of the first season between the two of them. It’s whether they can trust each other after everything that’s happened in the past, and I think David is trying to win Rebecca’s trust, but I don’t think he’s 100% trusting her as well.”

With the cast members discussing their relationships with other characters and what they would like to see if the show moves forward, a second season would be exciting to watch, should it materialize.

Butterfly is streaming on Prime Video.
