As of late October 2025, Hulu still hasn’t given Chad Powers the green light for Season 2.

Showrunner Michael Waldron and star/co-creator Glen Powell say the team is deep into brainstorming for another season, and more than a few big entertainment outlets have picked up on talks not just for Season 2, but Season 3 too. So, the show’s future is up in the air; there is real excitement from everyone involved, but no official word from Hulu yet.

Chad Powers, starring Glen Powell and spun out of a viral Eli Manning sketch, shot up fast as one of Hulu’s buzziest originals. The first season wrapped up on October 28, 2025, and it dropped a serious cliffhanger. Fans are left hanging, waiting to see what happens with Russ Holliday’s secrets.

The cast and crew haven’t been shy about wanting to keep the story going. They have talked about picking up right where things left off, digging into the fallout from the finale, and pushing the characters even further.

But does all that energy and planning guarantee Season 2? Not really. Everything comes down to Hulu and Disney’s viewership numbers and whatever internal data they are eyeing. The creative team is definitely ready, but the next move is out of their hands. For now, fans are stuck waiting for an official decision.

Hulu hasn’t given an official green light yet, but the creative team is definitely pushing for more episodes. Michael Waldron, the showrunner, told Deadline and Decider that they ended Season 1 on a cliffhanger on purpose, as they wanted to build momentum for what comes next. He also said the team had already started tossing around ideas for Season 2.

Waldron told Decider:

“We always intended to have a cliff-hanger. And we’re working on it to try and make sure everything that happens next is good and fulfilling.”

Both Waldron and Powell are eager to keep going. They want to see the story through, and from the sound of it, they are thinking about a three-season arc.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Waldron added:

“We have certainly talked about a plan. Everybody knows Glen, and I want to see this thing through to the end.”

Glen Powell isn’t shy about how much he loves this project. He told The Wrap he has “never had such a good time making anything” and said he will always make time for Chad Powers, no matter how busy his movie career gets. He has even talked about shooting big Season 2 scenes at the University of Texas. That just shows how much the team keeps pushing for both authenticity and laughs.

Season 1 ended with the South Georgia Catfish hanging in the balance. Russ, well, Chad, still keeps his big secret, Ricky is furious after what she found out, and the whole crew is wrestling with what is right and wrong.

The creators have already hinted that Season 2 shakes things up: now, Ricky, Russ, and Danny are teaming up to keep the Chad Powers act going. No more fighting each other. Instead, they are partners in crime, trying to keep their story straight as everyone around them starts to catch on.

From what the cast and writers are saying, the show is sticking with its anti-hero vibe. They even mentioned looking to Breaking Bad for inspiration.

Speaking with Esquire, Waldron mentioned:

“Because this is a comedy, it weirdly frees you up to stay more character-focused. Just around the story of Chad, the show probably has more in common with shows like Breaking Bad or Barry, but it's like a character holding on to a lie.”

There is no denying that Chad Powers crushed it from the start, shooting to No. 1 on both Hulu and Disney+ after the premiere. Entertainment sites all picked up the story, and even the show’s Wikipedia page highlights those top-10 numbers.

TVision put Chad Powers at the fourth most-streamed show in the U.S. from late September to mid-October 2025. And if you check TelevisionStats, a site that tracks online buzz, the show hovers around the top 30 in online engagement, even hitting #3 in the Comedy category on some days. Keep in mind, those numbers come from their own tracking and not the official trackers like Nielsen, but it still tells you people are talking about it.

Audience-wise, the series clearly made waves. However, critics were not completely sold. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 57%. Metacritic, a 53. So, viewers got into it, but critics weren’t blown away.

Now, when it comes to getting a renewal from Hulu, numbers matter a lot. But it is not just about how many people watch. Hulu looks at streaming stats, whether viewers stick around, how much the show costs to make, what the critics think, and whether the series fits its brand for the long haul.

About 84% of Hulu’s strong-performing shows get renewed, according to industry data. They also want to know if a show can keep its momentum going, or even grow, in future seasons. So, the future of Chad Powers has a solid shot if it can keep audiences coming back.
