ITV has officially given a go-ahead for Code of Silence Season 2, ending weeks of speculation about the fate of the show. The crime drama, which was released in May 2025, left pulses racing with its cliffhanger tale of a deaf undercover cop and was then at risk of becoming a series highlight of ITV's schedules.
Starring Rose Ayling-Ellis in the main Alison Woods part, the series combined tension, emotional depth, and pioneering representation, all within a neat four-part wrapper.
While Code of Silence Season 1 used a self-contained story, it left just enough loose ends to leave one wondering if Alison's tale would ever continue to an annexed level.
And now that ITV and the original cast have made an official announcement regarding the return, fans can look forward to the continuation of Alison's universe, where silence ain't no protection from secrets.
Code of Silence Season 1: A proven success
Since day one, Code of Silence has left its imprint in a big way. The launch on May 18, 2025, witnessed an enormous viewership of a whopping 7.5 million consolidated audience on platforms.
It kept on climbing higher to over 20 million streams, as per ITV, and is Britain's most viewed drama in Q2 2025.
The series garnered a weekly average of 6.4 million viewers, which is a measure of regular viewing interest.
The series also impressed critics with its awards for innovative exploration of deafness, sharpness of writing, and rich emotional performance by lead actress Rose Ayling-Ellis.
It has a 100% Rotten Tomatoes approval rate, which is a measure of high critical consensus regarding its story and delivery.
Season 2 commissioned: Cast and production team to return
ITV officially announced Season 2 of Code of Silence in production, with Rose Ayling-Ellis and series writer Catherine Moulton to return. The writer, whose work was taken in as realistic and sensitive, was happy to come back and continue Alison's journey.
As per Digital Spy, she stated,
"I'm thrilled by the response to the first series of Code of Silence and so excited to be bringing Alison back for another case. It's been a privilege to tell a story that opens up representation of the Deaf community, while also delivering suspense and twists."
Ayling-Ellis also confirmed her involvement. According to Digital Spy, she said,
"I'm so proud that Code of Silence has been recommissioned."
This confirmation removes all doubt about the team’s continuity and reinforces ITV’s long-term investment in the show’s success.
Timeline for shooting and release
Although initial rumour had placed a shoot schedule late in 2025, fresh news through Televisual and ITV's announcement assures us of the beginning of filming in 2026. The above adjustment is justified for factual following of the production schedule and speculates on an eventual 2026 or early 2027 release.
With ITV's standard post-production timetables, additional reports on release dates, new characters, and more extended storylines are expected in early 2026.
Season 1 recap: What's happened so far
Season 1 introduces us to Alison Woods, a deaf woman who serves at the canteen of a Canterbury police station. Renowned for her talented lip-reading skills, she is drawn into an undercover police investigation of a gang scheduled to execute a highly dangerous heist. Having little to draw on, the police resort to hidden cameras and rely on the talent of Alison to lip-read footage from CCTV.
While she investigates deeper, Alison has an undercover assignment in a pub connected with the gang. Within it, Alison becomes associated with suspicious Liam Barlow. When Liam attempts an escape from the scene of a burglary with stolen jewelry and Alison's mother, Alison is taken hostage by the gang leader Braden Moore.
In a dramatic finale, the police rescue Alison and the gang members. Liam is sent to prison, and Alison is offered the opportunity to officially train as a professional lip-reader detective specialist; her future is left uncertain. The last scenes teased that her career on the force, and, in fact, her history, would still be unresolved in future episodes.
What to expect in season 2
Although nothing is mentioned about the plot, the Code of Silence sequel will follow more of Alison's life as a new police officer and how she navigates professional and personal challenges. The return of the main cast ensures that the tone and direction are sustained, particularly since Moulton is leading the production.
The more invested Alison gets, the more deeply the second season can dive into tougher cases and fresh threats from within and lingering emotional relationships, all of her lingering history with Liam. Fresh characters are chances to shake up things in her life, and this can create new stakes and propel the show well beyond where it had established shop in Season 1.
