"Unless I’m involved in it", and "I wouldn’t approve"; these are some of the words that CSI creator Anthony Zuiker says when asked about the spinoff of the long-running procedural series, which ended in 2015. His words definitely make us wonder about the future of the series and if we are ever going to get a spinoff of the series.
After the huge success of the series, multiple TV shows got their inspiration from it. It became the ground zero for related TV shows such as CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, CSI: Cyber, and many more. Yet, the feel of the original series is truly hard to replicate. So, what are the conditions that Anthony Zuiker wants to implement to make a spin-off?
CSI creator Anthony Zuiker’s conditions for a spinoff of the series
When Anthony Zuiker is asked about his thoughts on spinoffs of the series, he quickly points out that, unless he is involved, it is truly difficult to make a series like that again. His words are not just empty claims but are absolutely true. It cannot be denied that Anthony Zuiker mastered the art of bringing life to the complications of investigations through the series.
For fifteen years, the series continued to remain on top of the watchlist of a huge number of people, and rightfully so. The series comes with a distinct level of thrill, which will force the viewers to get completely entranced with the investigations. The complex cases that come one after another, depicted with utmost authenticity, undoubtedly leave a mark. The expectations for a spinoff of this original series would be sky high.
Hence, giving the responsibility to someone other than Anthony Zuiker can not only be detrimental to the series but also not be well-received by the fans. Anthony Zuiker himself admits that maintaining the essence of the series would be difficult for anyone other than himself. He also continues that if he were to take on the task of creating a spinoff, he would completely take a different route. He has two options for the spinoff.
One is either taking the series “100 years ago”. The world of crime and investigation would be completely different 100 years ago, hence it will be a fresh perspective. His other choice is to bring forth a futuristic world of crime, which is “75 years from today”, where the type of crime will be completely different. He thinks a futuristic crime drama featuring “crimes, time crimes, crypto miscreants, brain hacking, AI, robotic crimes” would also be a great choice for the spinoff.

“Under my watch”, he says, these are the two options that will work for spinoffs. It cannot be denied that both of these options definitely sound quite intriguing. If Anthony Zuiker takes on the helm to create these spinoffs, then it will definitely be a massive hit.
His worlds are truly a testament showing how creative minds work. In a world where each year multiple police procedurals are released, keeping a show fresh needs immense dedication. Anthony Zuiker’s worlds definitely give us hope about the future of the series. He also bluntly admits that he “wouldn’t approve” any international versions of CSI, such as “CSI: UK or a CSI: Singapore”.
