Ever since Eleven from Stranger Things had the power to save her friends, fans have thought of her as the one with "special powers." But in Season 5, things have started to shift. Now Will Byers appears to be gaining strange new abilities. That leaves many asking: Will Eleven gain more powers? Or will Will's unexpected rise change who leads the battle?

Right now, what we know is this: in Stranger Things Season 5, Episode 4, Will taps into a secret link with the Upside Down, and that connection gives him abilities not seen before. He uses those powers to control monsters, save his friends, and even cause a nosebleed, a sign fans know well for psychic power.

It feels like the story is changing. Eleven's role may still be important, but Will has become powerful in a whole new way. What that means for Eleven's own future powers is still unclear.

What do we know about Will's new powers and what they might mean for Stranger Things?

Over the last few years, Will has always been sensitive to the Upside Down. He has had strange episodes, nightmares, and visions. He felt the danger before, but in Stranger Things Season 5, something changes. That old connection now shows real powers.

In the latest episodes, Will suddenly begins to see through the "eyes" of monsters and psychically sense them. Then, in the showdown at the military facility, he uses those powers to lift creatures, stop them, and destroy them. That was a shocking moment because it showed he wasn't just passive anymore; he could fight back.

However, the creators are adamant that Will's abilities do not come from him but instead come from having the ability to "channel" a collective will from a shared consciousness, referred to as the hive mind of the Upside Down, which is connected to the main antagonist of Stranger Things, Vecna.

As a result, Will won't always be able to access these powers and will have to be physically close to either the hive mind or to the creatures connected to it. He cannot telekinetically move regular objects, such as tables, doors, or other items; rather, he can only use the powers that are associated with that hive mind.

Currently, Will's evolution represents a significant step for him. He has gone from being a victim to an empowered participant in the conflict against the Upside Down. This new role brings a different feel to the show, as well as opening the potential for a more even or unforeseen conclusion to the final confrontation.

What might this mean for Eleven? Could she get more powers, too?

Since Will has recently gained these new powers, many fans now question whether or not Eleven has acquired any new powers or developed them further into even greater abilities than he currently possesses. However, so far, there has been no definitive indication in season 5 of Stranger Things that supports this theory. Currently, the storyline appears to be much more focused on Will than Eleven.

Because Will's power comes from the hive mind, not from a mutation or lab treatment like Eleven's, they are different in nature. That suggests the show might treat their powers differently; maybe each character will have unique strengths. It would make sense for the writers to diversify the power set instead of just giving everyone the same kind of power.

Also, giving Eleven more powers might reduce the impact of Will's transformation. The surprise and dramatic shift worked because Will was not expected to have power. If Eleven suddenly grew more powerful, that surprise would be lost and might change the emotional core of the story.

Finally, from a storytelling view, the show seems interested in making Will a bridge between the human world and the Upside Down. Whether or not Eleven gets more powers in Stranger Things might not matter compared to Will becoming more involved with the Upside Down. The series has also changed Will into a hero, and he will have his own unique superpower that originated from the Upside Down.

Whatever the outcome, there will be a surprise for viewers, as the final episodes could potentially be very different than expected. While both Will and Eleven might have powers, they each possess something different from what is considered to be standard or typical superpowers.

Maybe Will’s newly found link will change everything. What is certain is that this season isn't about simple powers anymore. It is about connections, hidden bonds, and a fight that might bring together the real world and the Upside Down more than ever before.

We will have to wait and see what the next episodes of Stranger Things bring.
