After years of delivering intense cases, emotional storylines, and a dependable procedural rhythm, CBS’s FBI has earned its place as a fan-favorite crime drama. Created by Dick Wolf, the show follows a dedicated team of special agents in New York as they tackle terrorism, organized crime, and more.
But as the TV landscape undergoes constant shifts, and with recent news about FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International ending, many are left questioning the future of the original series. Is FBI safe from cancellation, or will it soon face the same fate? Here’s everything we know so far.
It was revealed in early 2024 that CBS is bringing FBI back for three more seasons, which means the series will successfully complete nine seasons by 2027.
CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach announced the renewal and stated,
“The all-FBI Tuesday is a powerful force to be reckoned with on our primetime schedule. Dick Wolf and the talent in front of and behind the camera on all three series continue to deliver top-notch storytelling, riveting action and intrigue that has captivated a dedicated fanbase steadily across multiple seasons. We are excited to see what next season holds for all these heroic characters.”
Additionally, FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, the spinoffs, were both renewed for one last season. This will be the sixth season for Most Wanted and the fourth for International.
CBS' FBI: A legacy

CBS's FBI has certainly been an enormous success in that it has remained one of the top scripted dramas for CBS since its premiere in 2018. The 2024–2025 season's average episode viewership of FBI was 8.11 million viewers, making FBI the fourth most-watched CBS series behind Tracker, Matlock, and 60 Minutes.
The viewership of the series is a testament enough for CBS to renew FBI through not only Season 9, but also establishes the pivotal role the series plays in CBS's lineup, confirming its rollout in the 2026-2027 season as well.

FBI is a procedural drama that comes from Dick Wolf and Craig Turk. It premiered on CBS in 2018. The show takes place in New York City and tells the everyday stories of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's criminal division, including breaches of hate crimes, domestic threats, terrorism, organized crime, and even high-profile kidnapping, to name a few.
At the center of the series is Special Agent Maggie Bell (played by Missy Peregrym), who is dedicated to executing justice as a talented and driven agent. Her partner, Omar Adom "OA" Zidan (played by Zeeko Zaki), serves as a former Army Ranger.
