Andor Season 2 has only three episodes left, and it will be released on May 13, 2025. Like its predecessor, the second season consists of a few Easter eggs for the wider Star Wars franchise. However, some theories are floating online regarding an appearance from Galen Erso, played by actor Mads Mikkelsen, who was introduced in 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

For the uninitiated, we meet Galen at the start of Rogue One, as a former imperial scientist who is in hiding on a planet named Lah'mu with his wife and young daughter Jyn Erso. However, Orson Krennic manages to locate Galen and forces the latter to complete the Death Star project after killing his wife, Lyra. Unbeknownst to Krennic, Galen and Jyn had managed to hide in a bunker and saw everything.

Given her proximity to Cassian in Rogue One, some are wondering if Mads Mikkelsen would reprise his role in Andor Season 2. While it isn't confirmed that Mikkelsen is officially returning, it would make sense for the character to return in season 2, though.

Why is Galen Erso a perfect fit for Andor Season 2?

Galen Erso would not fit in Andor Season 2, but is an important piece of the puzzle. Mads Mikkelsen's Galen first appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, in which he was unveiled as the chief architect of the Death Star. However, it should be noted that Galen is far from a villain who willingly worked on the Death Star.

In fact, as stated before, despite his best efforts, Galen was forced to complete the Death Star. But this time, Galen became smarter and decided to build the destructive battle station with a fatal flaw. Also, the post-credit scene finale of season 1 hinted at the building of the Death Star, meaning the weapon could make an appearance in one of the three episodes of Season 2 in the coming week.

The reappearance of the Death Star in Andor Season 2 could be a perfect opportunity for Galen's return. We already know that one character who was returning from the first season, Andy Serkis's Kino Loy. Given that Kino Loy did not appear in the nine episodes, he may appear in one of the three episodes in the coming week. Probably, Kino may play a role in delivering Galen's message to Bodhi Rook, who, in turn, delivered it to Saw Gerrera.

Yes, Kino Loy is indeed returning in Andor Season 2. Andy Serkis himself confirmed that Kino Loy is alive after helping every prisoner escape in the tenth episode of the first season. This is what Serkis told Steve Weintraub in an April 2023 Collider interview:

"Well, put it this way, Tony Gilroy said to me, 'He’s still alive!' That’s what he said to me. So, that seems to me like there’s some sort of …there’s a possibility that he might be alive."

Approximately ten days after this interview, Kino Loy's return in Andor Season 2 was officially confirmed. Then, in a December 2024 interview with ScreenRant, Serkis said this:

"I love that show. I loved it because Tony Gilroy is such a genius writer. It's all about the writing. I remember him talking to me early on, and I was like, “Am I going back into Star Wars universe? People were so confused with Snoke. Are they going to start thinking that Kino Loy’s some weird cousin of Snoke? This is going to confuse the hell out of people” But then I read the script, I went in and read the script and met with Tony and he said, “Look, I want to make the Star Wars universe feel real. I want to write about themes that means something to me. I want to write about fascism and power and the abuse of power, and I can do it in this arena and make it resonate, and it'll feel real and grounded.”"
