Apple TV+’s Government Cheese Season 1 has ended after 10 surrealistic episodes. The show impressed the audience with its perfect blend of history, surrealism, comedy, and drama.
Set in the late 1960s, the series tells the story of a convicted burglar, Hampton Chambers. After being released from prison, Chambers tries to change his life by inventing a self-sharpening power drill, but his growing distance from his family and some dark secrets make his life miserable.
Hampton Chambers does not have a conventional happy ending in the Season 1 finale, which leaves the audience wondering whether there will be a Government Cheese Season 2. As of now, Apple TV+ has not renewed the series for another season.
The renewal status of Government Cheese Season 2

Government Cheese Season 2 has not been greenlit by Apple TV+ yet. However, the show has not been billed as a limited series, which means there is still a possibility of its continuation if Apple TV+ is impressed with its viewership ratings.
The show's first season concluded just recently, and Apple TV+ will likely review its performance for the next few weeks before deciding on its renewal. The series has decent ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a positive sign. It has a critics' score of 73% and an audience score of 72% on RT.
Meanwhile, from the story's point of view, the Season 1 finale did tie up some loose ends. The creators have ended the first chapter in a way that it can serve as a self-contained story if the show is not renewed for another season. However, they did leave some open threads to make up for a potential Season 2.
Hence, Government Cheese Season 2 is not in development yet, but things can change in the future if Apple TV+ finds its viewership good enough. If the series does get renewed, we expect David Oyelowo to reprise his role as Hampton Chambers.
The rest of the expected cast includes Simone Missick as Astoria Chambers, Jahi Di'Allo Watson as Harrison Chambers, and Evan Ellison as Einstein Chambers. However, Adam Beach will not likely return as his character, Rudy, has died in the narrative. The official synopsis of the show reads:
“Government Cheese” is a surrealist family comedy set in 1969 San Fernando Valley that tells the story of the Chambers, a quirky family pursuing lofty and seemingly impossible dreams, beautifully unfettered by the realities of the world."
"When Hampton Chambers (Oyelowo) is released from prison, his long-awaited family reunion doesn’t go quite as he’d planned. During his absence, Hampton’s wife Astoria (Simone Missick) and sons Einstein (Evan Ellison) and Harrison (Jahi Di’Allo Winston) have formed an unconventional family unit, and Hampton’s return spins their world into chaos,” it concludes.
Government Cheese Season 1 is available to stream on Apple TV+.
