It’s official: Grantchester will return to PBS Masterpiece for an eleventh season — and yes, it will also be its last. After over a decade of heartfelt storytelling, simmering tension, and the most pensive vicars on television, the series is preparing to bid farewell.

The announcement came in early July 2025, confirming that Season 11 is now filming. The series, which first aired in 2014 on ITV and in 2015 on PBS, has consistently captivated audiences with its nostalgic yet constantly evolving style. With its unique mix of crime and community themes, the show always balances murder cases with moral dilemmas, highlighting a small village’s big emotions with each story.

Emma Kingsman-Lloyd, Executive Producer for Kudos, said:

“We are absolutely delighted to be returning for another series of Grantchester adventures. After eleven incredible series, and the most wonderful experiences with a fantastic cast and crew, we have decided to bid a very fond farewell to our favorite crime fighting duo. Audiences are in for the most ambitious and thrilling series yet – Geordie and Alphy are going out with a bang!”

Now, with Robson Green's Geordie and Rishi Nair's Alphy taking the spotlight one last time, fans can look forward to a farewell season full of personal reflections, shifting relationships, and — because this is Grantchester — perhaps one or two bodies in the vicarage garden.

Grantchester- Final season, fresh dilemmas

Set in the scorching summer of 1963, the upcoming season finds Alphy exploring his roots and facing an alternate version of the life he might have lived. His growing bond with Meg, the Bishop’s daughter, adds emotional depth to his internal struggle as he begins to question what — and who — he truly believes in. Meanwhile, Geordie starts this chapter in an unusually good mood.

Cathy’s boutique is thriving, his family’s doing well, and for once, he’s not knee-deep in corpses and cryptic clues. But that peace doesn't last long when he receives a tempting offer from the Chief Superintendent — one that could end his time in detective work altogether. As choices approach, the question isn't just what they’ll do next — it's whether the partnership that defines Grantchester can withstand change.

A heartfelt goodbye from cast and crew

If there’s one thing that stands out about the end of the show, it’s how personal this farewell feels. Robson Green called the cast and crew “family” in a heartfelt tribute, while Rishi Nair reflected on the “honor” of joining a series with so much soul. Behind the scenes, co-creator Daisy Coulam and executive producer Emma Kingsman-Lloyd expressed nothing but gratitude for a series that became a summer ritual — both in production and in viewers' living rooms.

From its earliest episodes to this final bow, the show has always been more than just a period mystery drama. It’s a story of unlikely friendships, social change, and the deeply human need for redemption. Season 11 promises to be a meaningful farewell — not only tying up plotlines but also honoring the characters who’ve made us feel every confession, crime, and cup of tea.
