The Emmy Award-winning series Hacks has finally been renewed for a fifth season on May 27. The fifth season renewal comes ahead of the season four finale of Hacks on Max this Thursday.

Starring Jean Smart as Deborah Vance and Hannah Einbinder as Ava Daniels, Hacks presents a delectable comedy that often harbours on poignant drama. While Deborah is an established and legendary comedian now in her seventies, Ava is an up-and-coming comedy writer who often finds herself at odds with the former.

Here's everything that we know about the Max show's upcoming season.

What's the latest buzz about Hacks Season 5?

Commemorating the renewal of the Max show for an upcoming fifth season, Max's original programming head, Sarah Aubrey, declared in her statement:

"Yes! More! We congratulate ‘Hacks’s’ singularly talented cast and crew and our great partners at Universal Television."

Erin Underhill, the President of Universal Television, remarked in a similar vein:

"Like Deborah Vance herself, ‘Hacks’ only gets bolder, sharper and more iconic withtime. We’re beyond thrilled to keep the laughter rolling with Jen, Paul, Lucia, our extraordinary cast and crew and our partners at Max.”

It is still early days to reveal the plot or episode list of the upcoming season. However, we do hope that relevant information in this direction will be made available soon.

Hannah Einbinder opens up about the Max show

Towards the end of the show's third season, relations between Ava and Deborah broke down following the conflict resulting from Ava demanding her promised position of the chief writer on Deborah's new late-night show. Their quarrels reached such a fever pitch that the network soon assigned them an HR executive to calm things down between them, and that was what occupied much of the narrative space on the latest season.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Variety magazine, Hannah Einbinder shared her insights about the show in general and Ava and Deborah's relationship in particular. When asked about the momentous act of Ava being relegated to be the head writer, Einbinder noted:

"I think we watch Ava approach being head writer with a certain amount of idealism. She wants to create a working environment that is positive and hyper-respectful, and ultimately gets walked all over. Ava and Deborah have this philosophical battle over what is the right way to be a boss of others. And ultimately, I think there’s validity to both Ava and Deborah’s perspectives on that. But Ava swings very far in the opposite direction, and it kind of backfires."

Commenting on the complicated relationship shared by the two leading women, Einbinder further remarked:

"Deborah has this feeling that, no matter what, she can never lose Ava. That was tested, and I think it forced her to really realize how much [Ava] means. I also think the conversation between her and Rosie O’Donnell helps her to look at herself — helps her to look at the impact that Ava’s had on her, how much Ava has to do with the place that she’s in now."

Hacks is exclusively available on Max.
