Will there be an In the Mud Season 2? Renewal status and other details explored

Netflix's latest Argentine series, In the Mud, or En el barro, premiered on August 14, 2025. A spin-off of El Marginal, this prison drama explores the lives of Gladys Guerra and her friends in La Quebrada prison.

Created by Sebastian Ortega and starring Valentina Zennere and Ana Garibaldi, the series offers a raw glimpse into the realities of prison life. From sexual abuse by doctors and guards to drugs and brutal fights, the struggles of the female inmates are relentless. Yet, in this toxic environment, each with their emotional baggage, Gladys's group remains united against all odds.

As of recent updates, In The Mud has not been renewed for Season 2 by Netflix. However, in an interview with La Nacion, creator Sebastian Ortega has indirectly teased that there might be In The Mud Season 2.

Speaking about casting Ana Rujas, who plays Amparo Vilches in En el barro/In The Mud Season 1, he revealed:

"I wanted to cast her in the second season of En el barro , but she ended up doing the first one. Fate brought us together because we hadn't yet found the actress for the role she ended up playing. Ana is very beautiful, but her beauty doesn't overshadow how intimidating and sadistic she can be in the story."

Will In the Mud be renewed for Season 2?

After a breathtaking final episode, viewers are eager to find out whether In the Mud will be renewed for Season 2. In the finale, we saw how Gladys exposed Cecilia's (the prison director's) illegal child trafficking operation from prison. This led to Gladys being offered an early release. However, Gladys did not care about her freedom; she wanted to deliver justice to those Amparo had wronged. In a showdown, she brutally hit Amparo, dragged her body through the prison lanes, and threw her right at Antim's feet, a power move proving she's the new queen of La Quebrada.

The finale ended with several cliffhangers, such as Marina's fate, the aftermath of Galdys' deadly fight with Amparo, and Cecelia's next move after her arrest. These should be addressed in the next season, if there is one.

As of now, In The Mud has not been renewed for Season 2 officially by Netflix. However, In The Mud Season 2 might be on the horizon, as creator Sebastian Ortega, in an interview with La Nacion, revealed he initially wanted to cast Ana Rujas for Season 2, a clear hint that the team has the next chapter in mind.

The renewal of any show depends on certain factors such as viewership, ratings, production costs, and cast availability. Additionally, a crucial question that needs to be answered before renewal is whether a second season is necessary for the plot. In this case, several cliffhangers must be addressed before the show concludes. Even though it's early to rely on ratings and reviews, In My Mud has garnered an average IMDb rating of 6.2 stars out of 10.

Speaking to La Nacion, Ortega revealed the challenges they faced while filming In The Mud:

"“It's a huge challenge.There aren't just two or three protagonists here, but a large number of characters, and the idea was to tell where each one came from and what they were going through. Each situation is very different, from a cosmetic surgeon to a girl accused of murdering her boyfriend. Gladys's theme is accumulation, which is why her flashback is the longest"

While Netflix has yet to make it official, Ortega's tease leaves viewers with plenty of reasons to expect for In The Mud Season 2.
