Dominique Thorne is about to return as MIT student Riri Williams in Disney+'s upcoming series Ironheart.

Thorne made her MCU debut as Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and helped her genius mentor, Shuri, to stop Namor.

The series is one of the most exciting projects in the MCU as it will follow Riri Williams on an enigmatic adventure that will help her uncover many secrets that fuse technology and magic together.

Along the way, she will also meet The Hood (Anthony Ramos), a fellow tech wiz who will eventually turn to dark magic after stumbling upon a magical cloak.

The Hood's mysterious and concealed figure in a cloak has already been speculated to have a connection with Victor Von Doom, who will debut in the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday.

In a recent interview at the Los Angeles premiere of Ironheart, executive producer Ryan Coogler has furthered these speculations, confirming that the show will likely be connected to Doomsday.

More on this in our story.

Ironheart: Ryan Coogler addresses his upcoming series' connection with Avengers: Doomsday

The MCU is surely expanding with Riri Williams' return as Ironheart in her own spin-off series, who will return to Chicago and discover a world of technology and magic to achieve greatness.

The series will also introduce MCU's magic meeting tech, Parker Robbins / The Hood, who will stumble upon a magic cloak and will foray into a world of dark magic to achieve his goals and power against Riri.

The Hood is probably one of the major MCU villains, who will debut in Ironheart and fans are already comparing him to Doctor Doom, who will make his debut with Avengers: Doomsday. In an interview with Deadline, Coogler discussed his upcoming series' connection with Doomsday:

“It’s so crazy to be putting this movie out now, at the time where AI is on the front of everybody’s mind, technological ethics are on the front of everybody’s mind.''

He added:

“...But also — we didn’t know it was going to be Dr. Doom and the Avengers when we first started, but he’s a guy in publishing who’s most famous for fusing technology and magic, so it’s a great sample of things that are to come in probably what’s going to be the biggest movie in Marvel history.”

How do Ryan Coogler's comments connect the show to Avengers: Doomsday?

While Ironheart's The Hood is quite similar (in powers) to Doctor Doom, Coogler's comments confirm that the series will be connected to Doomsday and will establish a magical universe in the MCU.

Riri's Ironheart is already teased as a young Avenger and shares many similarities with Iron Man. Debuting in the Invincible Iron Man comic, Riri was modeled after Iron Man and her armor is reminiscent of the many armors Tony Stark made for himself in the Avengers movies.

While Riri was certainly pushed as a successor to Tony Stark, her newest villain in Ironheart has many similarities with Doctor Doom. The Hood is a tech wiz, much like Doctor Doom, who is the biggest user of magic in the comics.

Since Coogler's series follows similar themes and character archetypes to Avengers: Doomsday, it can be inferred that the two are connected, and The Hood's introduction will likely set the stage for Doom's eventual rule in the upcoming movie.

Talking about her character, Thorne teased that her character will deal with 'Mystical things' and teased how the series will explore the theme of magic:

''We definitely see her family, her mother try to kind of welcome her into that in a very rudimentary way and also really spiritual way that she is not at all interested in, so I think it’s a hilarious journey and also a really tempting journey that we see her go on once she realizes the full extent and capability of the magic side of the world.”

Ironheart will drop the first three episodes on Disney+ on June 24, 2025.
