In case you have been enjoying Billy Bob Thornton, with all his rugged, appealing presence, along with the West Texas drama, prepare to stick around, Landman Season 3 is on. The show has been officially renewed by Paramount+ in the wake of the blow-up popularity of Season 2. The ratings shot up to such a significant degree that it became an instant big hit on the platform.

The creators and the cast already indicate that Landman Season 3’s plot will have many more layers to go through, and the producers certainly have faith (and the audience) to continue with the series. So, yes, the show is not just hanging around, it is even planning to expand further.

Why Paramount+ said yes to Landman Season 3

Streamers are driven by two factors in making choices: the number of people watching and the buzz a show produces. Landman performed both in a great way. The premiere of Season 2 increased ratings drastically over Season 1 to the extent that Paramount+ declared the premiere as one of its most-viewed debuts. Such numbers inform the executives that the show is not just a lucky hit, but they can develop it into a long-term franchise.

In addition to ratings, the configuration of the show provides the makers with ample space to sustain the narrative: West Texas drama on speed, oil politics, and characters with numerous directions to follow. As Billy Bob Thornton has signed multi-year contracts and cast members have stated that they have unlimited stories to be told, the network views Landman as a low-risk investment and not a gamble. Thus, they greenlit Landman Season 3.

What Landman Season 3 might actually dig into

The messy family drama and big oil fights in the world of Landman provides the writers with numerous avenues to venture into. In Landman Season 3, Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) will presumably be dealing with the repercussions of making it to the top at M-Tex: running a company, managing a tense boardroom and having to cope with all the chaos that ensues as billionaires, regulators and old-school oil workers all collide.

Season 2 has already unveiled characters that may reappear as serious competitors or unlikely partners, thus you can anticipate new confrontations and new allegiances in Landman Season 3. It also allows room to do slower and character-driven episodes that reveal how the community in West Texas is impacted by oil booms and busts. These personal narrations make the larger corporate narrative balanced and keep the show on track.

Showrunner Christian Wallace has suggested that the show can expand, and as such Landman Season 3 could be laying the groundwork of long-term twists: betrayals, power dynamics, family problems, and difficult ethical decisions when profit clashes with real lives. Landman Season 3 will probably run on grit, heart, and high stakes, and if you like dramas that have those qualities, all you need is to wait.

Big question: will Taylor Sheridan stick around?

Taylor Sheridan's name is practically a brand at this point, so, naturally, interest in his level of involvement is high. He co-created Landman, and has been an important creative voice for the show, but with his big new multi-year deal elsewhere, many people are curious about how much time he'll have to devote to the show in future seasons. But the showrunner and writers have said that Landman's world, its West Texas setting and characters, is strong enough to stand on its own.

Studios often retain a creator's involvement but keep the nitty-gritty work with the team that knows best about the show's tone. In this case, a steady hand behind the series is often cited to be Christian Wallace. Thus, in case Sheridan gets busy, Landman Season 3 already has the structure and team to keep it going. And with Paramount+ investing in more seasons, the show is likely to continue whether Sheridan is deeply involved or just guiding from afar.
