Netflix has not confirmed the Last Samurai Standing Season 2. This streaming platform is also evaluating foreign viewing and reception of the audience following its launch on November 13. Director Michihito Fuji was optimistic by saying that the story is still going on.
Netflix is hesitant to replicate the show due to the cost and schedule associated with its production and run. Final decisions regarding Season 2 will typically take time, and it may be announced by the end of 2025 or early 2026. The news on the return of the show with another season is on the cards for action drama fans all over the world.
Here are the possibilities for Last Standing Samurai Season 2:
1. Netflix confirms renewal in late 2025

Netflix will continue to see the extent to which people watched the show and liked it. Critics gave positive reviews and commented that it reminds them of Squid Game and Shogun. They saw the story, the action scenes, and the way the Meiji era of Japan was depicted. One IMDb user commented,
"Last Samurai Standing was a really engaging ride from start to finish!"
The main performers, Junichi Okada, Yumia Fujisaki, and Masahiro Higashide, could return. Another chance to go back is also connected with other actors, including Shota Sometani and Taichi Saotome. Season 1 has a lot of loose ends.
2. Delayed renewal announcement with 2027 release

Netflix has decided to test the previous success of Last Samurai Standing in other countries. This follows as a normal stage before the final decision arrives. Assuming they get renewed, shooting can start in the middle of 2026, and the show is likely to go to market at the end of 2027. Fuji, the creator of the show, said on Yahoo,
"Sometimes future seasons happen two or three years later, and viewers forget what happened in the past."
The narrative would continue with the life of Shujiro and Futaba, as they go to Tokyo following the death of the Minister, Okubo. It can reveal the hidden intentions of Kyojin and the ascendancy of the power of Kawaji. The second could comprise additional political squabbles and the larger influence of the Kodoku contest. Iroha and her brothers want to avenge Gentosai.
3. Cancellation due to viewership or budget concerns

Last Samurai Standing may also not be renewed by Netflix unless more people watch all six episodes. Although the show was popular among its critics, Netflix considers the number of viewers prior to making a choice. The large shows that use special sets and action scenes are expensive to produce. If the audience is minimal, Netflix might opt out.
The decision can be influenced by changes in the budget or plans of the company as well. The show is based on a manga, Ikusagami, by Shogo Imamura. The audience will have an opportunity to read about the story in the manga and other adaptations, in case there is no Season 2. The ending leaves a lot to be desired.
