Spinoff series of Blue Bloods, Boston Blue, premiered on October 17, 2025. The series will depict Donnie Wahlberg's Detective Danny Reagan relocating to Boston and joining the Boston Police Department after his younger son, Sean, gets into a horrible accident.
Apart from bringing two OG characters from the original series, the premiere episode also introduced a surprising but anticipated storyline about Danny and his NYPD partner, Det. Maria Baez, played by Marisa Ramirez, is becoming a couple. However, since Maria still works in the NYPD, their relationship will be long-distance, which raises the question of whether we will see more of Ramirez in Boston Blue or not.
Showrunner Brandon Margolis shared with Parade that Marisa Ramirez will be seen more in the upcoming episodes of Boston Blue. He said:
"Though we teased with Baez in the pilot, that’s not the last we’re going to see of her. She will be back to put a little more meat on the bone of the story of what’s going on with them. So, there’ll be more than just a tease.”

Boston Blue: Showrunner confirms Maria Ramirez's return in future episodes of the series
Danny and Maria were last seen in Blue Bloods going out together to get pizza. Cut to a year later in Boston Blue, the duo are now dating, surprising their fans who had wanted this storyline for a long time. As the series progresses, we will see how Danny will maintain his long-distance romantic relationship with his former partner.
Margolis also shared that it was Donnie who wanted this storyline of the duo to continue. Therefore, we will be seeing more of Ramirez in future episodes of Boston Blue. During an interview with TV Insider, Ramirez also shared that Donnie Wahlberg was the one who called her to ask if she would join the spinoff series. She shared:
"He asked if I would want to be part of the new show and explore Baez and Dany’s relationship post Blue Bloods. Of course, I’m going to say yes. I don’t even know why he called to ask. They could have just said, ‘OK, you’re doing it,’ and I would have said, ‘Let’s go!”
She further shared about wanting to explore the backstory of when they became a couple and how it affected their profession as they were partners.
Furthermore, the showrunners of Boston Blue also revealed that Ramirez and Bridget Moynahan will not be the only characters that we will see in the spinoff series.
They shared with Parade that more of the OG characters from the original CBS procedural drama series will be appearing as guest stars in the new series. Showrunner Brandon Sonnier stated:
"What we can say is that we will absolutely be using legacy cast members from Blue Bloods. And we’ll be checking in with them throughout the season and series. Yes, the answer is yes, there will be visits from the Reagans."
Along with Donnie Wahlberg, Boston Blue also stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Gloria Reuben, Ernie Hudson, Marcus Scribner, and Maggie Lawson.
