Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is currently being filmed in New York to be released in early 2026. The finale of Born Again ended with Mayor Fisk winning as he accomplished his aims. He successfully banned all masks in New York and declared martial law in the city. But this fall might be temporary, as Matt Murdock has just renewed his commitment to being Daredevil again after retiring his vigilante alter ego.
In the finale, Matt has formed his small army consisting of ordinary New Yorkers, like some unnamed police officers, retired officer Cherry, Detective Angie Kim, Kirsten McDuffie and Karen. For now, these characters will be a part of the resistance in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. But there are chances that more characters can join the army in the upcoming season.
A lot of fans are expecting Matt's fellow superheroes from the Netflix Marvel Universe, i.e., the Defenders, to join Matt's army in the upcoming season. But an even wilder theory posits that Matt Murdock's vigilante alter ego will ally himself with The Hand, i.e., the antagonistic ninja organization that Matt fought in Daredevil Season 2 and The Defenders. This is based on Matt's new suit from leaked set images of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 might be adapting the Shadowland storyline
The Shadowland is a popular storyline in the comics that was published in 2010. In this story, Matt Murdock takes over as the leader of The Hand, whom he had fought until then. Right after taking over as the leader, Matt started to use The Hand to fight crime, but his methods turned more excessive, as Matt crossed the line and murdered Bullseye. This sudden personality change brought other street-level Marvel heroes together.
While the Shadowland storyline in the comics is more mystical in nature, it is unclear if Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will retain the mystical tone of the source. However, that doesn't mean that The Man Without Fear can't ally himself with The Hand. In fact, Daredevil Season 2 featured a moment in which Gao assists The Devil of Hell's Kitchen in bringing down the mysterious heroin dealer Blacksmith.
Therefore, this prior experience with the Ninja might set Matt up to become the leader of this villainous organization. Right after the finale, Variety interviewed Wilson Fisk/Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio. Editor Jordan Moreau asked D’Onofrio whether Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 was adapting the Shadowland storyline. The actor responded:
"That’s a very good question. I don’t know if I can answer that question. But it’s a good one. You’re obviously following the story in a good way."
What is in store for Wilson Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2?
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will probably follow Matt and his allies trying to bring down Fisk's oppressive rule, who has taken off the veneer of a populist politician and has become Mayor Kingpin. A day after the release of the finale, i.e., April 16, 2025, D’Onofrio, in bloody makeup, released a reel featuring him and Charlie Cox.
The reel not only teased a bloody and brutal fight between Fisk and Matt but also a return to an iconic location from the original Netflix show, Fogwell Gym, which we did not see in the first season. But we don't know when this teased scene might play out in the show for an entire year, though. Also, we don't know how Fisk will fall in season 2.
What do you think of this fan theory? Or you just want the Defenders to return in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
