NBC's crime drama starring Melissa Fumero and Aja Naomi King, Grosse Pointe Garden Society, has been cancelled after Season 1. The cancellation announcement has left not only the fans disappointed but the cast as well. Rebel Ridge star AnnaSophia Robb, who played the high school educator Alice, took to Instagram to share her feelings. She wrote in an Instagram story,
"Damn. I will miss our GPSP family. Grateful and proud of all that we made together."
In the next story, she posted a behind-the-scenes clip and wrote,
"We really did have the best crew. Thanks for making it a truly magnificent experience. It’s a blessing to do what you love, and an even bigger one to work with kind, talented and fun folks.”
Created by Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs, Grosse Pointe Garden Society premiered on February 23, 2025, and managed to garner 6.8/10 stars on IMDb and a 73% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite good reviews, the series was canceled in June 2025. NBCUniversal initially tried to move the series to Peacock, but the deal didn't happen.
The series delves into the lives of four suburban garden club members (Alice, Brett, Birdie, and Catherine), whose lives get caught up in a controversial murder. The series has a total of 13 episodes and is available to stream on Prime Video and the NBC website.
How did the Grosse Pointe Garden Society cast react on the cancellation of the series?
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine star took to Instagram to bid farewell not only to the show but to her character as well. Fumero portrayed the role of Birdie, one of the members of the garden club, a writer, and a single mother. She posted a few pictures from the Grosse Pointe Garden Society and wrote,
"Oh, Birdie. You were one for the books. You felt like an amalgamation of every role I’ve ever played. I’ll miss so many things about this job, but most of all I will miss the incredible group of humans it brought together. I won’t miss the shoes. It’s really hard to make a show. Even harder to keep it on air. I’ll forever be proud of what we made. Thanks for watching."
Ben Rappaport, who played Brett, a single father and the manager of the gardening club, also took to Instagram to share his feelings about the show being canceled after such a short run. In an Instagram post, he wrote,
"I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Showbiz ain’t for the faint of heart. Our beloved Grosse Pointe Garden Society was canceled today. I’ll sure miss working with these (and all of our) amazing folks every day. This was a special one"
Other cast members of the series include Matthew Davis, Alexander Hodge, Felix Wolfe, Nancy Travis, Nora Zehetner, Ron Yuan, Josh Ventura, Gavin Borders, Jennifer Irwin, to name a few.
