With the explosive ending of NCIS Season 22, the CBS show is confirmed to return for Season 23. In the finale, we saw Special Agent Parker (Gary Cole) lose his father after a longtime nemesis took her revenge on him. With a brand new season of NCIS, more of Parker’s challenges, especially dealing with his father's death, will be explored while the team solves new and dangerous cases.

The renewal of NCIS Season 23 was announced in February 2025, while Season 22 was still running. However, the plot of the upcoming season is not revealed yet, but it is expected to return in the fall of 2025 or early 2026 with the same cast as Season 22. Will there be an NCIS Season 23? Details explored

Back in February 2025, CBS revealed that the procedural drama was being renewed for a new season. But it was not the only show that had been renewed, as the network shared several other renewals for 2025-26, which also included Elsbeth, NCIS: Origins, and Fire Country, among others.

TVLine shared a statement from CBS Entertainment’s President, Amy Reisenbach, in which she said:

“This season, our new and returning series continue to showcase CBS as the leader in launching and programming the biggest hits with mass appeal for broadcast and streaming viewers. These returning shows represent a mix of long-standing hits and a new generation of fan favorites.”

She continued:

“In collaboration with our extraordinarily talented partners in front of and behind the camera, we look forward to delivering another successful season.”

What happened in NCIS Season 22 finale?

In Season 22, the team finally cracked the Nexus Cartel’s leader’s identity, who happened to be Kansas City mob boss Carla Morino. However, the task wasn't an easy one, as McGee and Torres both put their lives in danger to solve the cartel case.

Meanwhile, Gary Cole’s Parker finds out about the little girl, Lilly, from his dreams and her connection with his mother's death. Parker’s mother died in a drunk driving incident. But that's not all, as the season ended with a huge loss for Parker after Morino shot his father to avenge her son's death since she blames Parker.

What to expect in NCIS Season 23?

Apart from the renewal news, not much about the plot has been shared. However, with the end of Season 22, the new season is sure to address and explore more of Parker’s grief, now that he has lost both of his parents with none of them having a normal death. Parker’s resentment toward Carla might be at an all-time high now after she killed Roman.

All of the cast from Season 22, such as Gary Cole’s Parker, Wilmer Valderrama’s Torres, Katrina Law’s Jessica Knight, Sean Murray’s McGee, and Diona Reasonover’s Kasie, among others, might be returning for the new season, which is expected to be back on our screens in the fall of 2025 or early 2026.
