There is great news for all Dexter fans. The New York Ripper will appear in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, as the series creator Clyde Phillips confirmed on the Dark Passengers podcast:

"He'll be in the second season," said Philips.

The season 1 finale has revealed Ripper's file and his name, Don Framt, on it. However, we never get to see his face in the first season. The file has now reached the NYPD, which suggests that he might be a matter of investigation for the police rather than Dexter's main personal rival.

As mentioned, the creator of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 has already confirmed in crystal clear words about New York Ripper's presence. Season 1 has left Dexter with Leon Prater's files, giving him access to numerous potential targets. Fans have spent months speculating about what Season 2 would focus on, and now that Ripper's role in the narrative is confirmed, we can speculate on the plot to an extent.

In season 1, Ripper was a mystery, while his file only revealed the serial killer's real name, but we never got to see his face. This has intrigued Dexter fans a lot.

Though it's confirmed that the character will appear in season 2, it doesn't guarantee that the New York Ripper will become the main villain of Dexter: Resurrection season 2. He could be part of the B-plot, a secondary plot running alongside the main narrative while also complementing it. He could possibly be under active investigation by law enforcement.

This should not stop Dexter from going after the killer; however, this would indeed draw more suspicion towards him than before. Still, given that he brutally murdered multiple victims, he remains a clear antagonist, whether he becomes the season’s “big baddie” or not.

The second season of Dexter: Resurrection is still in the writing phase, and the creator has confirmed that season 2 will not be released next summer like season 1, as during the time the crew will be filming the show. A late 2026 window seems more likely to release; however, nothing is officially confirmed yet.

Who will be playing Ripper in season 2? Fans are hoping for a prominent name to draw both critical attention and fan interest. He should be someone who has a dark charm, threat, and mystery all at once, and not just straightforwardly a bad guy. Who will be able to match the show's tone is keeping the fans guessing.

Dexter: Resurrection season 1 wrapped up in September 2025.
