Pluribus, the new Apple TV science fiction psychological thriller, has just premiered with its first two episodes. The show already has a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score and will likely be a successful show by the time Season 1 ends. The show follows Carol Sturka (played by Rhea Seehorn), one of the twelve people who are immune to a virus that has made the rest of the world happy in a way that they are never sad, always content. Carol must find a way to save everyone from happiness.

But that won't be achieved in one season. The show's story is too complex for it to come to a conclusion after just one season. Future seasons would be needed, and here's what Vince Gilligan said on the topic.

Vince Gilligan on the future of Pluribus

Pluribus, when it first received a straight-to-series order by Apple, was ordered for two seasons, as Deadline reported in 2022. Thus, Pluribus Season 2 has been greenlit, and we will see a second season. However, that might not be all. Creator Vince Gilligan, when speaking with Variety at the PaleyFest NY 2025, was asked how many seasons he thinks the show will run for.

Gilligan said,

"It's a good question, I mean, and you take it with a grain of salt because when people asked me at this point in the run of the Breaking Bad, how long Breaking Bad should go. I would say eh maybe 2 or 3 seasons. And that wound up going six, which I think was perfect. I'd love to see Pluribus go as long as Rhea Seehorn wants it to go."

Gilligan proceeded to talk about how the show can make the audience see Seehorn's talent and potential and give her the recognition she deserves. He said,

"I'm really doing it, as much as anybody, I'm doing it for her. She deserves to be the mega star that she is. I want the world to understand how great she is and I want her to be as happy with this show as she could possibly be."

Finally, he expressed how many seasons he'd like the show to go on, saying,

And yeah, I don't know, at this point, maybe four seasons. I'm guessing, but who the hell knows?

Given how the first two episodes of the show played out, the show's story isn't simple. There is much to uncover, and it won't be easy for Carol to save the world from happiness. Thus, four seasons seems fair, as it won't end the show too soon or stretch it too much either. But then again, like Breaking Bad, the number of seasons can go up with time as well. Season 2 of Pluribus is already happening, and a third and fourth might be in the cards, too, but are yet to be confirmed.

The first two episodes of Pluribus are streaming on Apple TV. The next seven episodes will be released weekly on Fridays till December 26, 2025, on Apple TV.
