Red Eye, the British thriller series, caught people’s attention when it first came out. After Season 2 dropped on January 1, 2026, fans want to know whether we are getting a third season. Season 2 rolled out on ITV1 and ITVX, delivering another six episodes packed with diplomatic twists, international secrets, and plenty of tension.

This time, the story moves away from the tight, nerve-wracking setting of an airplane. Instead, you are stuck inside a locked-down US Embassy in London. Detective Sergeant Hana Li (Jing Lusi) is on the case, digging into the murder of a diplomatic courier. Meanwhile, MI5 Director General Madeline Delaney (Lesley Sharp) is dealing with a bomb threat on a government jet.

Right now, there’s no official word on Season 3. Multiple sources say Red Eye hasn’t been renewed yet. Fans will just have to wait and see.

As of writing, Red Eye has yet to be renewed for Season 3, per various sources. ITV has not officially stated the future of the show, and this is normal in the evaluation procedure of the network. Most networks, such as ITV, normally consider a number of performance parameters before deciding, such as the initial number of viewers, audience retention, and most crucially, the percentage of those who complete the series.

Nevertheless, there are also some factors to be hopeful about the comeback of Red Eye. With the success track of the show and the positive behind-the-scenes buzz, industry analysts are positive about Season 3.

Red Eye owes its future success to the incredible performance it had during Season 1. It was seen by 8.3 million viewers on all devices and is the fourth most-watched drama title across all channels and platforms to achieve 8 million in the first half of 2024. Better still, the series reached 29.3 million streams on ITVX, making this series one of the most popular dramas of 2024 at ITV.

Among the most promising facts that fans have to be pleased about is one by the creator of the show itself. Peter A. Dowling has indicated that he would like Red Eye to be a trilogy, showing the true creativity of the series in the future. This announcement is an indicator that Dowling already has the narrative arc conceptualized for Season 3 and views Red Eye as a three-part story.

According to him, he is as eager as anybody to find out what Hana, Delaney, and Jess are going to get themselves into next. In an official statement, Dowling said:

“I’m as excited as anyone to see what trouble Hana, Delaney, and Jess will find themselves in next. And in true movie form, we have to aim for Red Eye to be a trilogy.”

This type of long-view thinking implies that Season 3 would not be yet another chapter. It would actually be the conclusion of the entire story and something that would give fans a proper ending and close all those character lines that have been running since the beginning.

Depending on existing details and the way Season 2 ended, a number of narrative opportunities arise to take on a possible Season 3. Towards the end of Red Eye Season 2, Delaney proposed a position at MI5 to Hana, which she declined, but Delaney promised to keep the offer open in case she decided to accept. This open plot line would give an interesting twist to Season 3, where Hana could move to an MI5 operative instead of a police detective.

The trilogy format also implies that Season 3 would have to offer resolution to storylines and character relationships that have been established through the series. The relationships Hana has with her sister Jess, the continued trust and collaboration with Delaney, and the wider significance of the international conspiracies they have unraveled all need to be resolved.

Martin Compston’s character, Clay Brody, survived Season 2 and may appear again in the show, but he will probably have to play a different role due to what happened in the embassy crisis. The creators of the show would have to discover organic means to revive popular characters and introduce new threats and challenges.

There is no official timeline of production yet, but industry trends and information available give some hints. According to the analyses conducted by TV Guide UK, the perfect scenario for the shooting wrap-up is summer 2026, thus enabling ITV to air it in the following year. This situation would set the possible Season 3 premiere around 2027, thus maintaining the same production and release schedule as with the preceding two seasons.

Season 2 of Red Eye was confirmed in September 2024, and it was released in January 2026, which is an indicator that the production team is capable of highly effective work if they get the green signal. This schedule looks very convenient if ITV takes the decision to go ahead with the next Season 3 in a few months.
