The Forsytes fans have good news, as the series is officially set to return with Season 2.
Based on the novel The Forsyte Saga written by John Galsworthy, the series features Francesca Annis and Danny Griffin in the main leads. The first season of the series came with six episodes in total. It began airing on October 20 in the UK, and new episodes dropped every Monday, leading up to the season finale on November 24.
However, it's important to note that The Forsytes is still not available in the US, with its release date set for March 22 next year. Once released, it will be available on MASTERPIECE on PBS.
After the strong response to Season 1, many viewers are wondering if Debbie Horsfield, the writer behind Poldark, will return with another season for the series. The good news is yes, The Forsytes will have a Season 2!
The Forsytes officially renewed for Season 2
PBS Masterpiece released a press release in June, before the release of the first season of The Forsytes, confirming the news of Season 2. CCO & Founder of Mammoth Screen, Damien Timmer, told Masterpiece in a statement:
"We can’t wait for the world to see series 1 of The Forsytes, and we’re so pleased to be getting ahead of ourselves and starting on this thrilling second series with Debbie Horsfield’s irresistible scripts and our glorious—and ever-expanding—cast."
Susanne Simpson, Head of Scripted Content & Executive Producer of Masterpiece, confirming the news, said:
"We’re so pleased with the first season of The Forsytes that we’re thrilled to continue the story into season 2 with our stellar cast. We’re confident that our MASTERPIECE audience will quickly come to love the intrigue, romance and drama that this series brilliantly brings to the screen."
Season 2 is currently shooting in Bristol, U.K. However, its official release date is not confirmed yet. With Season 1 releasing this year in the UK and set to release early next year in the US, Season 2 might follow a similar schedule, possibly coming out around October like the first season. However, this is just speculation until the network officially confirms the release date.
What will The Forsytes Season 2 be about?
Season 1 was indeed very dramatic, with new family secrets being revealed and love lives explored. Starting with Jolyon, whose life is turned upside down when Louisa, his old love, comes back into his life, not alone but with their twins, Joss and Holly, leading to him leaving his own life with Frances.
Viewers see June follow her heart, falling for Philip and even proposing to him, with their future looking bright as of now.
Another turn came after Soames went back on his promise of giving Irene a free life in case she was not happy with him, making her realize she's trapped and her dreams are almost gone. Though Soames did help her achieve her dreams in the beginning of becoming a ballet dancer, the turn was significant, leaving viewers with the question: what will happen to Irene's dreams now?
Speaking of The Forsytes Season 2, the press release stated:
"In this next chapter the proud dynasty faces a new era of scandal, ambition, and shifting loyalties. As love, legacy and reputation collide, the cracks in the family’s polished façade grow ever deeper."
This leaves us wondering how Jolyon and Louisa's relationship will go or if both will again have to separate due to new challenges. Season 2 might also focus more on June and Philip's story and whether the society of the rich will accept them completely. And for Irene, viewers are left guessing if she will finally break free and follow her own dreams.
Who are the new faces in The Forsytes Season 2?
Viewers will see Richard Rankin, Nia Ashi, and Sarah Alexander as they become part of the Forsytes' world. However, the details of the characters they'll be playing haven't been revealed yet.
