After years of delays and growing anticipation, Apple TV+'s spy thriller Tehran Season 3 may finally premiere in 2025. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the third season of the Israeli spy series is expected to air in the U.S. in the coming months. However, an Apple spokesperson has declined to provide an official comment regarding the release.
If the rumor mill is true, Tehran Season 3 will be released after more than two and a half years. The filming and production of Season 3 were finished in 2023, but due to geopolitical tensions, its release was postponed indefinitely by Apple TV. The Emmy-winning series was initially scheduled to debut in April 2024.
In December 2024, Apple TV finally allowed the Israeli broadcaster Kan to stream Tehran Season 3 locally, and it was released on December 9, 2024, on Kan 11.
Tehran Season 3: Plot, cast, and more details of the spy thriller
Created by the trio Dana Eden, Moshe Zonder and Maor Cohen originally for the Israeli channel Kan 11, the series delves into the life of Tamar Rabinyan, an undercover Mossad agent and a computer hacker who's planted in Iran (also her birthplace), which ultimately puts her life in danger as her mission fails. As she tries to escape, she becomes entangled in the city's resistance movement. Season 2 raises the stakes higher as Tamar, before fleeing, goes on one last mission- to save an Israeli air force officer- all while navigating danger, betrayals, and personal loss.
In Tehran Season 3, Tamar is on the run from both the Iranians and the Mossad. A new nuclear threat looms, and Tamar is pulled back into the shadows. With no one left to trust, she must outsmart enemies on every side. The danger is bigger than ever, and so is the cost.
Apart from the main cast, which includes Niv Sultan as Tamar Rabinyan and Shaun Toub as Faraz Kamali, some of the fresh faces joining Tehran Season 3 are:
- Phoenix Raei as businessman Ramin Gamsy
- Sasson Gabbai as Nissan, a veteran Israeli Mossad agent
- Hugh Laurie as Eric Peterson, a nuclear supervisor from South Africa
Will there be Tehran Season 4?
Although Season 4 has not been officially announced by Apple TV or Kan 11, the show's director has revealed that production on a new season is in progress. Speaking to The Times of Israel, Daniel Syrkin, the director of Tehran Season 4, said he has been scouting locations for the new season and that the scriptwriters are rewriting parts to better align with current geopolitical events.
Additionally, there's also a casting call for supporting actors (Asgar and Cyra) in Tehran Season 4. According to the Backstage website, Tehran Season 4 will be primarily shot in Athens, Greece, between October 2025 and April 2026.
Tehran Season 1 and 2 are available to watch on Apple TV+.
