Will The Assassin Season 2 happen? Here’s what we know about the Prime Video show’s future

The Assassin is steadily rising through the streaming charts.

The crime thriller series premiered on Prime Video on July 25, 2025, and has been able to generate massive buzz among the audience despite minimal promotion.

The show revolves around Julie, a former hitwoman living in Greece, who comes across her estranged son. As the two mend their relationship, they have to run from some deadly threats as Julie’s past comes back to haunt her.

The six-episode series ended with some burning questions, which are making people wonder whether there will be The Assassin Season 2. As of now, Prime Video has not renewed the show, but series creators are eager to continue the story.

The renewal status and possibility of The Assassin Season 2

At the time of writing, The Assassin Season 2 has not been greenlit by Prime Video. However, the status can certainly change in the future, considering the positive reviews received by the show. The series was released without much promotion, but that has not stopped it from becoming a hit among the audience.

Since streaming platforms usually analyze viewership numbers of a show before deciding its future, there is a high possibility that The Assassin will be continued for a second season, as the series has become quite popular within a few days of its premiere.

Meanwhile, creators Harry and Jack Williams already wish to create more episodes of the show. That is why they ended Season 1 in a way that has directly set up future conflicts. Talking about their plans for a second season, the creators said in an interview with Esquire:

“At this moment we don’t specifically know what a season 2 would be. That said, Keeley and Freddie are so brilliant together, and such a delight to work with, that we’d absolutely be open to the possibility of more.”

Discussing how the cliffhanger ending of the first season has already established plot points for more episodes, the Williams brothers said:

“The coda forefronts one of the big questions left dangling at the end of the series – who is Edward’s real mother? How did he end up living with Marie and her beloved arms-dealer husband Jean-Luc? The coda is as much about letting the audience know that mother and son have found a way to be at some kind of peace with one another.”

Hence, The Assassin Season 2 is not in the works currently, but the show could be renewed considering its high viewership and creators’ narrative plans. However, we need to wait for an official confirmation from Prime Video.

If the series does get renewed in the upcoming few weeks, it would likely take a year to handle the pre-production, filming, and post-production of the new season. Thus, the potential second installment is expected to premiere on Prime Video by the end of 2026.
