The Copenhagen Test by Peacock is a sci-fi spy thriller that debuted on Dec. 27, 2025. In its very first season, the show drew fan attention with its engaging story led by Simu Liu.

As several thriller shows are set to debut in 2026 across multiple streaming platforms, fans are already wondering whether Alexander Hale’s story will continue beyond Season 1. While the series has not yet been renewed for a second season, hints from its creators suggest that the story is far from over.

The Copenhagen Test Season 2 possibilities explored

Thomas Brandon hinted at the show's future

Season 1 traces Alexander Hale, played by Simu Liu. Hale’s brain is hacked by a mysterious enemy using nanite technology. Hale is associated with an agency named The Orphanage, which decides to leverage the hack to track the hacker. Apart from the mission, Alexander’s life is conflicted by Michelle (Melissa Barrera), a fellow Orphanage operative assigned to get close to him.

In the eight episodes of the debut season, The Copenhagen Test unpacks both personal and professional stakes for Alexander, as it also weaves themes of trust, surveillance, and autonomy.

The grip of the intense thriller is strong on viewers and hence, creator Thomas Brandon’s recent comments in an interview with Deadline matter most to curious fans.

He mentioned to Deadline,

“There’s been a thought there, but it’s just thoughts. But yeah, it was always designed as an ongoing series, so there’s plans and ideas and hopes for what a second season could be.”

Brandon’s tease on the potential for prequel material reflects the rich backstory of The Orphanage and its operatives.

Bigger questions remain, hints the creator

Thomas Brandon interlaced the series’ sci-fi mystery with complex and critical issues around Alexander’s body, consent, and privacy, which are compromised in the story as he is put under surveillance.

Both Brandon and Liu have hinted at the possibility of expanding the story beyond just one season. Brandon told Entertainment Weekly,

“The season 1 finale provides emotional closure, but it also opens a much bigger question. That’s what would lead us into season 2.”

Liu supported this sentiment, reflecting on Alexander’s significance:

“We built this incredible world…Alexander’s been a gift. He’s an important character: a Chinese American spy fighting for his country, making his parents proud, making his country proud. I’d love to keep exploring that.”

The ratings hint at a probable return

Beyond the tease by the creators and actors, The Copenhagen Test seems plausible, as the show bagged a generally favorable response. Its Metacritic score stands at 61/100 and it holds roughly 71% on Rotten Tomatoes for Season 1.

The Copenhagen Test Season 1 IMDb audience score is near 7.0/10, indicating solid viewer engagement for a new series.

For now, viewers can only speculate on what comes next for Alexander, Michelle, and the web of intrigue surrounding The Orphanage.

Season 1 establishes a narrative that can be revived for a Season 2 if Peacock decides to greenlight another chapter in the Simu Liu-led spy thriller. If it does, the show’s mix of high-stakes conflicts, espionage drama, and strong casting will add to the comeback experience.
