The FX neo-noir The Lowdown aired on September 23, 2025. It traced Lee Raybon (Ethan Hawke), a Tulsa-based citizen journalist and owner of a bookstore. Lee is obsessed with exposing corruption in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Lee wants to expose corrupt real estate developers and local politicians, but he also faces financial difficulties from time to time. The show retains the playfulness of creator Sterlin Harjo's previous work but offers fresh storytelling through an indigenous lens.

The Lowdown Season 1 established the ground. Now, Season 2’s future is optimistic, according to its creative team. A formal renewal has not been announced by FX, but creator and executive producer Sterlin Harjo gave a candid response about the series' future in his interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Following the Season 1 finale, Harjo expresses his clear, long-term vision for the 2025 neo-noir.

Will there be a The Lowdown Season 2?

Creator Sterlin Harjo expresses that he has thought long-term about the series’ future. This comes as a positive sign to the fans despite the lack of an official green light. Harjo states how Season 1’s premise of The Lowdown can lead to the next installment.

Confirming his expansive vision of the show, he maintained:

“I mean, I've thought about many seasons of this show.”

He also spoke on his narrative direction for the next installment:

“I've thought about other projects - there was always an idea of going deeper into Oklahoma and some of these relationships that Lee has made in the first season.”

Harjo brought up a classic television comparison to comment on the format:

“I was telling somebody, The Rockford Files did it every episode. We could do every season”.

Core cast and guest stars make a show engaging and appealing. Apart from a show's own appeal, audience response and reception become critical factors in determining renewals.

The Lowdown creator Sterlin Harjo suggested that, depending on Season 1's reception, the future seasons may unfold with the help of supporting characters:

“People love Waylon [Cody Lightning], so I wonder what [there is to explore with him]. And Cyrus - Killer Mike is amazing. Sometimes that stuff guides it. I have ideas.”

With a talented cast and strong critical acclaim for Season 1 of The Lowdown, the possibility of a renewal is high.

The Lowdown Season 1's cast included Ethan Hawke, Keith David, Kaniehtiio Horn, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Macon Blair, Scott Shepherd, and Tim Blake Nelson, among others.

What happened in Lowdown Season 1?

The first season opens with Lee publishing a bold exposé on a powerful family who are neck-deep in politics and the real estate business. His aim of uncovering dark players takes a dangerous turn when Dale Washberg, a very influential member of the family, dies.

Lee uncovers his own investigation, discovering a series of cryptic hidden letters that suggest a deep-seated conspiracy tied to the family's assets and political maneuvers.

As the season unfolds, Lee treads into a risky rabbit hole where he crosses paths with notorious criminals, all seemingly interested in an illegal land deal in the region. Lee repeatedly finds himself harmed in his efforts to uncover the truth.

Through Ethan Hawke's brilliant portrayal of Lee's obsession with truth, the show explores the heavy personal toll and effects on his relationship with his daughter, Francis. The show draws a touching portrayal of an ethical dilemma and the price of a mad pursuit for truth.
