The War Between the Land and the Sea has come to an end, scoring over a 6 rating on IMDb. This has also led many fans to wonder whether the series will get its Season 2. Sadly, the creators haven't confirmed any updates on Season 2 as of now.

Created by Russell T. Davies, the TV mini-series featured Russell Tovey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Jemma Redgrave in the lead roles. The War Between the Land and the Sea aired a total of five episodes, with two episodes airing weekly on Sunday starting December 7, and the last episode airing on December 21. Each episode has a runtime between forty-three and fifty-three minutes.

The series has been rated suitable for viewers aged twelve and above on Apple TV. Speaking of the story, the creator of the series, Russell T. Davies, previously told Radio Times:

"It's a complete story – it absolutely ends... and I will say, stay tuned for the very end, keep watching."

Exploring The War Between the Land and the Sea Season 2 possibilities

The synopsis of The War Between the Land and the Sea on Apple TV read:

"When a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, an international crisis is triggered. With the entire population at risk, UNIT step into action as the land and sea wage war"

Apple TV has also released an additional episode, episode 6, titled Interview with the Writers, featuring Russell T Davies and Pete McTighe.

As told by Russell to Radio Times, stating the series is a complete story has already started speculations that the series might not get renewed for season 2. The series is currently available on Apple TV and BBC and is scheduled to release on Disney Plus next year. However, the confirmed date has not been revealed yet.

This also makes it a partnership between Disney and the BBC. However, in October this year, The Hollywood Reporter said that Disney is ending its Doctor Who partnership with the BBC.

Director of drama Lindsay Salt said in a statement reported by The Hollywood Reporter:

"We’d like to thank Disney+ for being terrific global partners and collaborators over the past two seasons, and for the upcoming [spinoff series] The War Between the Land and the Sea"

She continued:

"We can assure fans, the Doctor is not going anywhere, and we will be announcing plans for the next series in due course, which will ensure the TARDIS remains at the heart of the BBC."

The end of the partnership could affect the release of Season 2. However, it could also open the door for a new story, similar to Season 1, leaving both possibilities open for fans.

The War Between the Land and the Sea is reportedly produced by the Bad Wolf production company in collaboration with BBC Studios. This could mean that the BBC might have a say in deciding whether the story continues or not. However, it's still uncertain.

In the meantime, fans can still look forward to Doctor Who's special episode, which is expected to be released next year.
