While HBO Max's record-breaking sports romance was renewed mere 15 days after its debut, the creator and stars were quite certain about its future, considering its breakout success after the two-episode premiere. However, as Tierney revealed in the interview, Storrie only believed the news when it was official. Both the stars (Williams and Storrie), Reid and Tierney celebrated the renewal news over a Zoom call, which made rounds on social media, shortly after Season 2 was officially greenlit by HBO Max.While it was reported that the second chapter of Shane and Ilya's story will not hit our screens before 2027, Tierney has provided a hopeful update. Teasing the release window for Season 2, the creator said:''It's not gonna be two years. It's not even gonna be 18 months, I don't think. So we're gonna go as fast as we can, while ensuring that we're doing as good a job as we possibly can."The overwhelming response and the breakout success of both Williams and Storrie have encouraged the team to work twice as hard and the crew will surely return stronger in Heated Rivalry Season 2.What will Heated Rivalry Season 2 be about? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThankfully, Rachel Reid wrote a sequel to Shane and Ilya's story in her sixth and final book (in the Game Changers Series) titled The Long Game, which will become the basis for Heated Rivalry Season 2. While Shane and Ilya crossed the biggest hurdle in their relationship by confessing their feelings for one another, they still have a long way to go. The second book takes Shane and Ilya into uncharted territories, where they navigate their relationship and hockey careers together. While Ilya feels exhausted with all the secrecy surrounding their relationship, Shane fears that coming out would destroy his public reputation and career, which creates a rift between them. However, the couple finds a way and explores new levels of understanding and communication (which they hardly did in Heated Rivalry Season 1).In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Connor Storrie revealed his excitement for Shane and Ilya's story in the second season:''Now that we've established we're together and we're choosing this, what does that look like to consistently choose through new obstacles, new self-realizations? The other shoe drops that deepens the love, but that also tests some of their personal limits."You can stream all six episodes of Heated Rivalry on HBO Max.For the latest scoops on your favorite TV shows and movies, follow Soap Central.
