Will Too Much Season 2 happen, or is the romance between Jess and Felix already done after the first season? That's the one question fans are asking about after the wedding scene in Season 1.
While Netflix hasn't confirmed a second season, the cast and Lena Dunham are hoping for a second season to happen. So will this rom-com story continue?
The answer: there's hope, but it depends on what Netflix decides. Let's take a look at what we know so far about Too Much Season 2.
Lena Dunham’s hopes, the cast’s excitement, and where Netflix stands
Although Netflix hasn't given an official renewal-notice yet, Too Much Season 2 is not out of the question. In fact, the people behind the show seem pretty optimistic. Lena Dunham, who not only created the show but also directed and wrote much of it, said in an interview with The Wrap:
"I would love to do another season and sort of shift it away from 'meet cute' and into 'marriage story."
For her, the wedding wasn't the end.
"Marriage is not the end of a love story. In many ways, it's the beginning, and a marriage is an incredibly complicated negotiation."
Megan Stalter, who plays Jessica, echoed similar thoughts in her chat with The Wrap. She explained:
"I love the ending because it's exciting to think of... wait, what's next? If they're married, then what now?"
Dunham told Variety she remains "hopeful" but admits that:
"...We don't always have control in the television industry of what our ending looks like."
Netflix, known for making decisions based on how shows perform in their first month, is still quiet on the matter. The streamer tracks not just how many people start watching but also how many finish a show.
For Too Much Season 2 to move forward, the best thing fans can do right now is watch all of Season 1 and spread the word.
What could Too Much Season 2 look like, and who might be back?
If Too Much Season 2 does get the green light, don't expect a repeat of Season 1's romantic spark. Instead, Lena Dunham seems ready to dig into the messy aftermath of a quick marriage.
As she told Netflix's Tudum, she wanted the Season 1 finale to raise questions:
"I wanted the finale to leave us inspired, but also going, 'They haven't known each other that long'...It's that dual feeling of totally embracing it and also wondering, 'Are they going to be divorced in three months?'"
Dunham's own life with her husband Luis Felber loosely inspired the series, but she has made it clear that the story is fictional and could go anywhere from here. That opens up many directions a Too Much Season 2 could take, especially with both Jessica and Felix bringing emotional baggage into their new life together.
Should the show return, cast members could all reprise their roles. And since the show wrapped production in 2024, an optimistic guess would be a possible return by 2026, though that depends entirely on when Netflix gives the go-ahead.
Right now, Too Much Season 2 sits at a crossroads. There's no confirmation yet, but the cast and creator are clearly excited to make a comeback for a second season. With Lena Dunham already involved in a production deal with Netflix, there's reason to believe the rom-com might, after all, get a second season.
The characters, their stories, and the questions left behind feel like just the beginning. However, until we hear something positive from Netflix, all fans can do is have hope, watch the show, and look around for news regarding a Season 2.
