Another X-Men '97 star has joined the fray in demanding an animated feature film. Almost two weeks ago, on July 20, 2025, voice actress Alison Sealy-Smith, who has been voicing Storm since the original X-Men: The Animated Series, expressed hope for a full-length animated movie featuring versions of the X-Men seen in the 90s and 2024's animated shows. Now, Lenore Zann, the actress who has been voicing Rogue like Alison Sealy-Smith since the original show, has also asked for the same.

Voice actress Lenore Zann, who has also been a Canadian MP until recently, appeared at the Tampa Bay Comic Convention for a panel moderated by Maggie Lovitt, who is a Deputy Editor of Collider. In that panel, Zann expressed the hope for an animated spin-off movie of X-Men '97. The Rogue voice actress said:

“Oh, an X-Men animated feature film would be fantastic. I think people would love that.”

Thus, it seems that as of now, a demand for an animated film headlined by the version of the X-Men seen in the 2024 animated show has risen by two actors. However, it remains to be seen if Marvel decides to move forward with an animated movie featuring these characters or not.

Is an X-Men '97 animated movie possible?

While Marvel may be considering moving forward with an animated movie featuring the mutants, it must be said that the X-Men are a top priority for Marvel Studios. This is why it is likely we may not get an animated feature film featuring the versions of the characters we saw in the 90s X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men '97.

However, just because we are not getting an animated feature with these characters doesn't mean that fans should feel disheartened. We still have two more seasons of this animated series.

What do we know about seasons 2 and 3?

Work already began on seasons 2 and 3 last year. Therefore, a lot of fans were expecting to see season 2 this year. However, it seems that Marvel is playing it close to the chest, and they are releasing the second season in 2026, with no details about the third season for now.

Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, addressed the second season's release date in an interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub in February 2025. When Winderbaum was asked about season 2 of the animated series, he answered:

"Season 2 of X-Men ‘97 is going to be in ‘26. We're working on it now. It's exciting. That world of the ‘90s is just… Honestly, Steve, I can't believe they let me make it. I grew up at Marvel, as you know, clocked a lot of time here, and I feel like I used a lot of currency to revive this thing that I loved watching after school. So, the fact that we get to play in that universe with those actors is honestly why I went into this business in the first place."

Weintraub asked the Marvel executive whether the critical acclaim of X-Men '97 impacted Marvel animation. Brad Winderbaum gave this response:

"I think, certainly, the viewership has opened up some opportunities on the development side for us on animation. To me, it's important to try to get to an annual cadence with these shows and to have something that people can rely on. This has been a challenge for streaming in general, but I really want to create television shows that feel like shows. So, part of that is creating a seasonal cadence that people can rely on. So, we do have other things we're working on, but X-Men ‘97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man are the top priorities in trying to get to a place where we can reliably have very strong seasons every year."

Are you looking forward to the second and third seasons of X-Men '97?
