The Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 2 finale is now streaming on Disney+ and reveals crucial information about Billie Russo. In a flashback scene, the family learns that Alex Russo, Selena Gomez's character, is Billie's mother. This makes her the niece of Justin and Giada and the cousin of their sons, Roman and Milo.

Billie's memory is triggered by a magical locket, and she gets to know that Alex secretly brought her to WizTech when she was a child to protect her from the evil Lord Morsus, who turns out to be Billie's grandfather. The ending of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place shows Billie Russo fighting with Morsus. Justin and his wife, along with Alex, arrive at the place but are easily overpowered. Billie takes the help of a locket she found earlier and sees a powerful flashback where Alex tells her young daughter about how much she loves her, but there's "someone out there" who is looking for her, and she won't let that happen. The show connects this past unveiling that Damien had fallen in love with Alex, defying the evil legacy of his father, Morsus, making him Billie's grandfather.

Billie can open the rift between the dark realm and the real world, and when Morsus compels Billie to do the same, Alex and Justin arrive to help. In the season's climax, the portal becomes too strong to stop the process, and Alex, while tackling Morsus, sacrifices herself to save her daughter. This is how the episode ends with Billie mourning the death of her mother while Justin, comforting her, says that they will find her "someday".

This suggests that Alex's story is far from the end, and the character might reappear with a new twist. Executive producer on X also teased fans that anything could happen.

“Alex Russo is tougher than you think—and there’s a lot more to come.”

This is how season 3 of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is moving towards exploring more adventure and the legacy of the family, with Alex now trapped in the Dark realm and the Russo family vowing to bring her home again. Billie could play a central role in this, as it seems like she just got the biggest mission of her life and her wizard journey.

Alex had always been a fan favourite character, and connecting her this way to the show with the central character again is interesting. The revelation that Alex is Bilie's mother completely redefines the show's mystery. It deepens Alex's character, connecting her further with new fans of the show and keeping the stakes high as she is now trapped saving her daughter.

Moreover, revealing Morsus as Billie's grandfather further adds multigenerational conflict into the narrative, weaving the magical mythology with family drama in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. This sets up for conflict in season 3, giving the entire wizard family a motive and a villain to fight against.
