Kevin O'Leary, the Shark Tank investor, in a recent interview with Fox News, described what he thinks of the steps that Prime Minister Carney is taking right off the bat as he starts his term in office.
The point of concern is the economic future of Alberta. Kevin is not the one to mince words, and this case was not an exception. He stated that increasing the carbon tax was the biggest misstep by Carney.
"Well, he started right out of the gate in the wrong direction. He added more carbon tax, and that's the business, that's the first thing he did. People were shocked. That's what made Alberta crazy. They just don't get it, and I don't get it frankly, either. The economy will continue to decline, and there will be an election soon," he predicted.
Alberta is a province in Canada that depends heavily on its energy industry. Guven the fact that it is an economically powerful state and even "distributes wealth" to other provinces that do not have it, the new policy has "pissed" them off.
Talking about the same, Kevin said,
"So I don't think this guy gets it yet. He's going to have to work very hard in order to win over the Albertans, and I'm not sure it's gonna happen. They are talking about a sovereignty of their own. They create most of the wealth in Canada and distribute it to other provinces that don't have it and they're a little pissed off."
Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary criticizes the new Canadian Government formed under Prime Minister Carney's leadership
Kevin O'Leary, the Shark Tank investor, is concerned about how Canada might move to the election once again if Carney does not take immediate steps to fix what he has broken with the Albertans. Revealing how they are trying to get their own sovereignty, it could be problematic for the country as a whole.
On the other hand, the Shark Tank investor also shed light on the nature of parliamentary systems in countries that follow it. He says that a government is only powerful and stable if they are elected and comes into power through majority votes.
However, this is not the case with Carney, as he has formed a minority government by collaborating with other political parties. Kevin predicts that in these cases, it does not take a long time, a maximum of 12 to 18 months, for the government to fall.
Explaining, he said,
"You gotta remember something about the parliamentary system in Canada. He did not win a majority. He won a minority government. And if you look at the history in Britain and Canada and other places with a parliamentary structure, a guy that comes in that doesn't win a majority, he gets wacked pretty soon, probably 12 to 18 months."
Shark Tank season 16 episodes release weekly on ABC at 8 PM Eastern Time on Fridays. They are later available to watch on Hulu.
