The Yellowstone sequel is due for release on March 1, 2026.

Ahead of its launch in less than 2 months, the sequel has changed its name. The sequel was originally set to be titled Y: Marshals, but as per the latest report by The Hollywood Reporter, the series will now be released as just Marshals on CBS.

A spokesperson from the platform has clarified to the news outlet that the omitted bit ('Y') was “always considered silent.”

With the first-ever spin-off sequel to Yellowstone, the story will focus on Kayce Dutton, but this time, the story gets independent space to unfold away from Beth and Rip, who were integral characters in Yellowstone.

Marshals will mark the early spring programming for CBS and will premiere as a part of the 2025-2026 television season. Marshals will take up a different tonality than Kayce’s previous arc in Yellowstone. Kayce will appear in a more isolated, grounded storyline where he may return to his solo pursuits.

Therefore, it is indicative that events in the sequel may take independent routes to bring freshness and ultimately connect to the Dutton Ranch, potentially. Key franchise characters and known faces are also returning for another appearance.

Returning cast give the sequel a sense of continuity and familiarity for the seasoned audience of the core series, who will watch the sequel.

The updated storylines and casting choices are aimed at catering to both new and seasoned audiences of the show. The title change aims at exuding a broader appeal to the viewer base. Be that as it may, the logo still has the 'Y' part that has now been erased from the title.

Earlier, the parent series maintained its strong performance in Paramount Network, but with the sequel's entry, the franchise now steadily moved into CBS territory. Marshals stars Luke Grimes in a reprising role as Kayce Dutton, the complex and nuanced anchor of the show.

Who will appear in Marshals?

Gil Birmingham will appear as Thomas Rainwater, who is the chief of Broken Rock Indian Reservation. This Reservation was adjacent to the iconic Yellowstone Ranch. Mo Brings Plenty will play the character of MO, who is also a known character from the core series.

Mo serves as the bodyguard of the Chief. Brecken Merrill will appear in her previous role as Tate Dutton, the son of Kayce Dutton. Apart from these cast members, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos will step into their roles.

Tatanka Means and Logan Marshall-Green will also be starring in the CBS title. Full cast details are yet to be revealed.

The duties behind the lens are handled by Taylor Sheridan, along with David C. Glasser and John Linson, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and David Hutkin, who work as the executive producers for the sequel.

As per the plot of the sequel, the central plotline will center on a former U.S. Navy SEAL and the central character, Kayce Dutton. This time, Kayce will be overseeing Montana and ensuring its protection along with a specialized group of U.S Marshals.

Yellowstone premiered on cable television on Paramount Network on June 20, 2018. The show soon started to dominate the charts and became one of the titles that cable TV lovers watched closely.

The Yellowstone franchise by Sheridan has a few prequel and sequel series that expand on the thrilling ranch story into more context. Two of the prequels airing before the upcoming sequel were 1883 and 1923.

The first prequel came out in December 2021, and the second prequel aired in December 2022 on Paramount+. Marshal will air on March 1, 2026, on CBS.
